Good deal for axle build?

Ok my mechanic just quoted me 1250, and this is what it includes: 4.88 gears in the front and rear, new axle seals all the way thru both front and rear, new bearings in both front and rear, new u joints in the chunks on the front axle, fixing my shock mount where I broke it, and fixing a short in my wire for my brake and tail lights. He's basically rebuilding both axles and he said all the parts he ordered were the most heavy duty parts he could find. Is this a fair price or am I being ripped off? I usually do all my own work nut axles scare me so this is the first time I've used a mechanic for the jeep. Please let me know soon before I tell him to go forward with it.. Thanks guys and I appreciate all the help and advice I've received from everyone before.

Price sounds pretty good to me. A single new axle usually costs around 2K from an axle dealer. If he is using all new parts, quality parts etc, I say go for it.

Here is a link of just parts, not counting labor for you to compare to.

Sounds like a good deal but I would find out the kind of gears he's using and who makes them. Not all gear sets are created equal, while your getting the gears done are you going to do any Limited slip/locker install? It would be an excellent time to do it.

Like he said. Assuming good gears, that's a very fair price indeed, assuming the installer knows what he's doing.

D35. I know I'm polishing a turd but I plan on doing an 8.8 swap here in the near future, but it's gonna have to hold off for a little bit.

E-5 pay is a hell of a lot better than you think. I'll take your pay over mine for the work involved in making it. I've been there and wish the military wasn't so full of bureaucrats and running cuz I'd still be in otherwise.

You only need to add maybe 400-500 for the 8.8 swap to the price you have.. I say save the additional money and be done with it..

8.8 swap can be pretty cheap.....i spent 300 on the axle, and paid a guy 600 to do it for me........i dont have a welding machine. 373 gears are in the 8.8, havent swapped front gears yet so i still got the 308,s . I also , at the same time, had him do a spring over setup. All in all, I am in for about a grand on it.

Well I made a discovery yesterday. I found about 8 ford 8.8 rear ends out of explorers at a scrap yard. The guy wants to charge me about 175 dollars for each I think I might go pull one. It's a little over 200 if he pulls them

E-5 pay?!?! I wish I'm a E-1 and am managing to do a SBC 350 swap with a 700r4 tranny. I just live in the barracks and go to the chow hall as much as possible and really try not to spend anything.
