I've purchased a few over the years and I've never paid a bit of attention to the brand name.
You're actually probably looking for a "hand puller" and not a hand winch. I think the difference is that a winch is designed for pulling boats onto trailers and things like that. A puller is designed as a multi-purpose tool, for fences, moving stuck equipment, etc.
I'd get the best one I could afford at the farmers store, and just assume that in this case, more expensive equals better. I believe that the only "bad" ones are made from stamped metal with flimsy handles.
