Hard time shifting gears

Hello everybody! Please help. Have a problem: when my YJ '93 is not running I can shift all the gears without any significant force/pressure,from the moment I start the car and is running I have hard time shifting gears from first(hardest) till all the to the 5th. After applying some force I can successfully shift but have to again, apply some forceful effort. Sometimes it shifts with no problem other times all the above...Please help!
P.S. I feel her pain , I love my jeep. Can take to mechanic if needed but I want to know of any thoughts. Thank you in advance! Ed

First check the fluid in the trans if full might drain it and put a better fluid in to help the syncros out I'm sure some one else will help you more

Welcome to the forum man

Garyk, I think clutch too became kind of "sensitive" on the let go part. First I thought it seemed to me but now I am thinking it is so. For example: if it is in rear gear just by starting the car and pushing clutch all the way in and not releasing already gets the car going...any ideas on this "issue"? Thank you for input!

glad you got it fixed. another great thing that can help shifting into first (which seems extra hard sometimes, at least in my case), is press the clutch, shift into 4th, then into 1st. something about syncros i think... i dunno, but it goes in like butter when i do that

If you haven't already, replace fluid in trans with synthetic.
