Hard top

Hello all

I picked up a hard top for my YJ. The guy said it was a CJ top. I plan on doing a little rehab on it and store it until winter.
My questions are.....
What do I need?
It seems there is a piece that mounts to the windshield that I screw (?) it to, is that so?
Does the soft top channel stay in place?
Are the any similar pieces in the back to attach it to the body?
Are there seals or gaskets that work better than others?

You will have to fab a tailgate lip to seal the gap. On a CJ the rear window locks the tailgate, on a TJ the tailgate locks the window.

For a tub seal you can use a standard camper shell foam sealing tape. On the windshield, remove the soft top channel and screw the top to the inside of the windshield behind the visors. There are commercial gaskets available but I just used two layers of camper tape.

Before you spend a bunch of time and money, make sure that everything fits everything else.
Those are aftermarket doors made by I don't know who. Make sure that they fit your hard top. Not all aftermarket doors fit Jeep hard tops.

Depending on what year top you have it could be fiberglass or sheet molded compound.
The boat fiberglass resin that you buy in hardware stores or marine stores won't adhere to SMC (sheet molded compound). As far as I know the later model YJ tops are SMC and you will need to get the proper resin at an automotive supply store that typically sells supplies to body shops.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Good luck, L.M.

The doors are way cool.... personally I'd throw the top back n try again....
I have found yj hardtops for under $200 more than once....... you're looking at $50-100 just in materials to glass that sunroof hole back in (use 2 part epoxy and csm) glass work is horrible work

Doors are cool...buddy of mine had a set and cut the tops off and made some nice half doors for his CJ7 for running with no HT.
