Hard top in an accident?

If I were to roll or something in the similar, would having my hard top on be for the better or worse? I would think better because it would keep me from the road, but also worse at the same time because of fiberglass shards going everywhere. What is your guys' opinions?

I think it would be an unhappy time either way. With a proper roll cage I'd take no top over a hard top, with the standard roll bar I would think the hardtop may give you a couple of seconds of protection, but it would soon be fragments.

I don't know, I saw a jeep on it's roll bar on the freeway the other day, he was strapped in but it appeared his roll bar bent back and his windshirld frame collapsed as his head made contact with the pavement. I don't think our jeeper buddy made it. Made me look into a real roll cage whn I got home, I'm planning on a Poison Spyder when funds permit.

Hmmm good point. I guess then it becomes fiber glass splinters vs nothing between you and pavement (lets be honest and say that a rag top again gonna do much)

Look at the roll cage on any stock wrangler and tell me it's going to be worth anything at even remotely high speeds, family roll bar for instance doesn't even have a cross bar, it can't possibly protect anything over a slight roll at minimal speeds. Hard tops are bolted to a flimsy body and made out of fiberglass so to think that will protect you is just crazy. But on the other hand I feel safer than the guy in a business suit driving a "smart car" so just drive smart.

Screw it! You're still safer than anyone on a motorcycle.

Like mijeeper said, just drive smart, no accident is a safe one. So don't do anything stupid like texting/drinking and driving and anything else is outta your hands so there's no point worrying about it!

Driving smart only helps you from creating an accident. You have no control over the other guy. I was rear ended on the freeway by a guy who was texting and didn't see that traffic had slowed. I was grateful that I wasn't in my jeep or I would have been airborne or rolled for sure. My Mustang was totaled, but it held up surprisingly well, and my only injury was whiplash.

Which is why I said everything else is out of your hands, you can't control other peoples stupidity.
