Hard Top Questions?

I just bought a hard top and full steel doors for my 93 yj for $250. The top has a few cracks in the fiberglass right at the bottom where it sits against the rear corner panel.

My issue is that I have bolted the top down around the rear area of the jeep, using the existing soft top mounting spots. I can't find any mounting places up against the windshield area. Is there something I'm missing or is there in fact no mounting to the window area.

Also the full steel doors need everything except the glass and crank replaced. I still have my original half doors with soft uppers, but they dont fit w/ the hard top. Does anyone make a half door upper that will work with the hard top?

I'm not a YJ guy ... but I have seen people talking about "Screwing" their tops on ... I'd check into that ...

Should mount right along the top of the windshield frame. Will have to take your soft top channel off first for it to fit though...

and there should be a few holes up along the front on the inside where you can run some self-tappers into. Otherwise it fits pretty snug on its own.

I had to run (3) self tappers into my 94' from the inside. One in the center and a couple more out about a foot to each side. And yeah, make sure you remove the soft top slider on top of the windshield frame.

before winter, I want to pull it back off and seal the edge with a piece of weather stripping then seat it back on there and screw it back down.

they do make half door uppers, here is an example. You'll need the curved corners -vs- the pointed ones.

This one also has the gap filler behind it to close in the roll bar, you won't need that with a hardtop, just the top half of the door.

thank you

Thanks for the info on the door uppers. I did remove the channel from the soft top. There are a bunch of holes that look like they've been ripped out on the hard top near the windshield. Is there anything made to reinforce fiberglass of the front of the hard top? I'm afraid if i just put more screws into the top that they will just rip through the fiberglass as well.

Any pics of that area would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everybody, this forum is the best.

picture request

Can someone take a picture of their hardtop on their yj from the inside. Just wondering what I should be looking at where the top meet the windshield frame. I think I might be overlooking something. I can't seem to find anything I can screw the top into. I even bought the reinforcement strips from quadratec, but I don't know what they are supposed to mount to on the frame.

No replies, need help

Does anyone have a pic of the inside of their yj where the hardtop meets the windshield? I don't see anything that I can screw the top to up there.

Just bought a hard top myself for the winter. We put it on to check the fit. It fit pretty good other than the channel for the bikini top that will have to come off.

I did notice the holes that would be used along the windshield are ripped out on mine as well. Curious to see if any has had to fix that problem on their own and been successful.

The holes where gone on my cj hardtop.. I would set it on the windshield and the get some silicone and run a line then use some duck tape over that.. end of season just pulled the duck tape off and clean up the silicone. Held well enough to keep the water out and top on.

Cool

I am trying to find a solution for the gap between the post on my roll bar behind front seats and the soft upper. Does anyone know where I can buy these, I'm going nuts with this. Thanks.

Here is a sot of the front top, you can see the self tapping sheet metal bolts, and a side view of my YJ.

Hope this helps

The part that attaches to the windshield is metal. I just drilled holes in my windshield frame and screwed it down. I'll take pics.

Tj soft upper doors with some slight modification WILL work with your Yj hard top. You might have some people tell you they wont but ive seen it done! Im not sure if the Yj soft uppers with rounded corners will work with the hard top or not? I dont see why they wouldnt tho...

That is the only thing that has to be done other than a little bending and aligning! seems to be alot cheaper doing it this way if you or know someone who can weld and find some Tj uppers without having to pay full price for new ones.

TJs don't use the belt rail attachment like YJs do, that is the other difference. TJ uppers just pin in. YJ uppers pin and then the canvas has a lip to secure it into the belt rail on the door itself. You will probably get cold air in between the upper and the lower door shell because they are slightly different to mate to the seal. Something to think about...

I have a 1993 YJ

I am trying to find a solution for the gap between the post on my roll bar behind front seats and the soft upper. Does anyone know where I can buy these, I'm going nuts with this. I tried the TJ gap filler, doesn't work. Any suggestions?

I have added a pic of the gap behind the upper on my 93 YJ.
Thanks
