Hello fellow jeepers! Since I tend to get quite a bit of info from this forum for problems I run across, I thought I would join. Im a long time member of jeepforum, and that forum has helped me countless times. But I have also googled questions and time and time again I am directed here, so I thought I would join this forum as well. I have a 90 YJ, and an 03 WJ. My wj is my dd and commuter, as I work in another state 2 weeks at a time, and mostly bone stock. She currently has 220k, and aside from chasing a noise in the suspension the past several months, is a tank and still runs great. My YJ is my toy, and my baby aside from the fleshy ones. That along with my 99 banshee, my two favorite things to ride and drive. I havent done much to my yj, tires, carpeted the hard top, upgraded the blower motor, dropped the trac bars and such. nothing major, but i bought it in pretty good shape with a recent frame off rebuild, new 4 inch lift, everything gone through etc. Good deal for what I paid, and how it looks. I am currently taking her in for a paint job. The PO did a flat paint job with no clear coat, and the use of salt brine on the roads here in pa in the winter wreaked havoc on my paint, and i am getting lots of surface rust. so this weekend I start the project, removing all the flairs, hard top, lights, grill, etc. Ill scrub everything down and prepare it. When I start I will post pics here and on the jeep forum. I plan on sanding, removing the rust as best i can, along with the stuff on the frame i can get to without removing the tub, and repainting it all. i dont want a fresh paint job up top and a rusty underneath. I plan on using monsta liner on the tub, the jeep spice color with black accents. On the frame I plan to use rust converter. I saw it at the hardware store, it supposed to turn rust into a thick black primer. I plan to start it sunday, so I will post pics then. Great to be a member!
Welcome! I think you will notice a lot of us in here also visit jeepforum. Might be just me, but this site seems a little more mellow. There are those on the other site who have tremendous jeep knowledge, but there are also a few sh*ts.
I'm just wrapping up a frame up rebuild, rebuilt my YJ for the young kids to ride in and follow us on our quads at the desert home.
well i started the prep today, we got really far actually, between rides on my banshee. the banshee ran great after sitting for the past 5 mos or so. back to the jeep, we got all the flares, the lights, top, doors, everything off we needed to. the ds fender had a lot of surface rust, i started with a sanding block, then went to wire wheel and grinder, then just a grinding wheel. the sheet metal on top pealed off to reveal a lot of rotten metal beneath. i also found the same on the top side where it meets with the hood. i removed the fender, im going to take it to a buddy of mine who owns a garage. ill see if he can fix it for me, a bit cheaper than a new one, since they run around $200 on ebay. and finding jeep parts in junk yards anywhere is rough. i took a lot of pics, but vzw changed a bunch of stuff and getting pics isnt as easy as it used to be. plus the beers at the garage, and at home, well im in no condition to focus too much time on one thing. so i will figure the pics sitiation(thats intentional) out tomorrow, and the fender, and repost then. i appreciate the welcome, and look forward to another opinion and interest here on this forum. i must say i hate the posts on the jf, that get 1-2 replies but a few hundred views. i always appreciate another opinion even if i have a simple question with a simple solution. i may not have all the technical knowledge and info a lot of you gentlemen do, but im self taught, i learn as i go. i may not know all the specs, the numbers, but i know whether or not i can make something work. being a roughneck, im pretty good at making a square block fit into a round hole. (thank you oilfield) and once again thank all of you for the current and future help in all my jeep endeavors, whether it be jeepwise or otherwise as these forums have helped me with other issues as well. onto the next step gentlemen. it will be a few weeks, gotta order the monsta, and finish the prep, just a little more sanding then a wipe down. damn did it feel good to work on her today. it wasnt anything necessary, i mean she needs a paint job bad, but not a i gotta get this done to get it working type of job. most of it came apart well, fender flare bolts snapped, and i had to grind a bolt off for the fender but nothing serious. i cant tell ya how long its been since ive done a just because job on a vehicle and it all worked out very well. ill post when my phone cooperates, but im back to work on friday, which means ill be silent for 2 weeks since i will be working those two weeks till i get 2 weeks off. ill be in touch and thanks.
