How much is my YJ worth do you think?

Hey everyone,
My rear end is making noises and the list of "NEED to do" is getting longer and more expensive. I might sell my YJ and buy something that is in better shape because I'm only in high school and can't afford all the money that this Jeep needs put into it.

it's a 1992 4.0 5 speed that I bought for $3,000 and it wasn't worth it.

What it came with:
-Hard top
-Soft top with no bows
-Full bikini top in great condition
-Full steel doors
-Soft lower and upper doors
-Sound bar

What it needs:
-new transmission syncros (1st and 2nd gear)
-clutch needs a new master cylinder
-needs new suspension
-new door and trunk hinges
-Maybe a new paint job if you want it to look real nice
-steering stabilizer
-Needs the rear window defroster fixed (looks like the wire was cut)
-Needs bows for soft top
-Seat covers if you really want but the seats aren't torn. The factory die is just wearing out.
-New speedometer light bulb
-New sending unit

What I've done to it:
-Cut out rotted rocker panels and welded new ones it (spray painted white for now)
-POR under both driver side and passenger floor boards
-Fiber glassed and POR inside of both driver side and passenger floor boards
-Herculined entire tub
-POR seat brackets and painted them black
-Cleaned whole interior
-Bought new floor mattes
-New Pioneer head unit and speakers installed ($300)

Frame is in good shape with only surface rust and no rot. I'm not even sure what's wrong with the rear end yet. There's a grinding noise coming from the right rear drum brake and other softer grinding noises coming from what sounds like the axle. I'm thinking it's bearings or something.

So how much do you guys think I can get for it? I love my Jeep but I just can't keep up with it. If I can get enough for it I'll sell it and buy one in better shape.

J.E.E.P.-Just Empty Every Pocket

Thanks everyone,
YJman

i think that it was worth the 3000 you paid for it and with the info you gave it looks like it wouldnt take much to fix it if you can do it yourself. i am also in high school and i also paid 3000 for mine. but if you really want to sell it i would say that you could get 2500 if not what you bought it for depending on the mileage. also dont make the mistake of buying a 4 bangger, i did, its not that bad but just buy a 6

Honestly, you're repair list is a lot of cheap stuff. You can find a lot of those items at a junkyard.

Rough Country steering stabilizers are only $28.

Speedo light bulb:

Is your suspension sagging?

definitely. The only crappy fix you have are your synchros. You'll have to yank your transmission obviously. Just prioritize and fix things when you need to. Look on ebay and craigslist for parts. You may even be able to get hooked up on WF.

Thanks a lot guys. Maybe I just needed to be influenced.

MikeMYJ-Thanks for the link! I'll have to buy a RC stabilizer soon then. The one on my Jeep is still stock lol. And no but the rear shocks are starting to rot..

jgwalkt-I'll keep my eye out on craigslist. Everytime I go on there, all my eyes see are the new Jeeps lol

I have a softop bow set for the old style Supertop with the curved corners for the doors. It's yours for free if ya want it.

Sounds tempting but I have no clue what kind of top mine is. Is there somewhere on the top I can find out? And what do you mean by curved corners for the doors?

Thanks

OEM had square corners if Jeep came with half doors. Supertop has curved corners so full doors will shut tight around the windows above the outside handles.

If your softop has snaps in the middle of the fabric as well as along the back above the rear window, this will work for ya.

Don't know where you are in CT, but I'm right outside Boston. If you think you can make it work, PM me with ur phone number and we can figure something out.

Bobby

I've got the snapps along the center and along the rear of the top. So your bows will work?

As far as the rear axle making noise, sounds kinda dumb but have you checked the rear brakes for something broke? Like a spring or part of the shoe. If you got a 6 find axles for a 4 banger they have 4:10 gears or an easy swap is an 8.8 out of an explorer. Either way it'll cost less than $400. If it is a 4. Keep an eye out for an ax15 trans used in 6 wranglers and v6 Dakotas. Make eBay and craigslist your friends. It'll be cheaper than you think to put ur jeep back into shape

Well theres like 3 different noises lol. One noise is a loud grinding noise coming out of my right rear drum brake but it only happens on occasion. The other 2 noises are from the rear end I'm pretty sure. I'm going to replace the fluid and the gasket to see if it helps.

I think you need to keep it

Check the rear u-joints for wear, that could be part of the noise.

Email me a list of the stuff you need and I will see what I can do for ya

Thanks man I'll PM you my list lol And my U-joints are good. I checked them today.

And thank you VERY much lmao. We're waiting until we redo the whole downstairs to tear it out. We were supposed to do it 2 years ago but we went on a cruise instead. Then we were going to do it last summer but we bought a boat instead. lol. And next summer we may be upgrading to a larger boat so we're almost giving up on the downstairs. Our money has been going to bills and toys lately (like my Heep :] ).
