Hi all, I am John. I posted in the newbie section some weeks ago trying to decide a route to go and I made a decision to go with a cheap alternative and finally got it home. It is a 1988 Wrangler Lerado, 6 cyl, auto, 4x4 with a/c. I am going to need a couple things for it. First thing I need is a steering column.. Someone tried steeling it and broke the column and broke the guts that slides up and down. that is the most important right now, because I cannot start it like it is, or at least not easily.
I also need the following
a black top with frame or a hardtop with hardware(it had a hardtop but it was destroyed)
a carburator, or conversion of some sort.
steering column
clean seats front and rear
Otherwise it is a relatively rust free Jeep that looks a lot better than expected. I bought it sight unseen.
I am confused. What exactly are you wanting? I tell my wife all the time, I need, I need, does not convey much. I am at a loss to what you need, and what you want the rest of us to do about it?????????
im kinda confused too but im guessin' he just wants us to suggest some brands or somethin' (???)
if thats the case then you can't go wrong with best top
a fuel injection would be great (howell is the brand i think) but if you go with a carb then weber is a good brand
and flaming river makes a good steering column
mastercraft and best top make good seats
i'm not sure if this is what your lookin for or not
my bad...wasn't sure if you needed parts... i wasn't sure if you wanted us to suggest brands or what but ya you could try the wanted section as stated...or ebay...or if ya buy it all new then try quadratec
I cut and pasted it so many times I must have taken out the question portion. I am looking for decent venders, new and used. I am not buying a new steering column, but the rest maybe.
So yes, I needed suggestions from the collective wisdom of the people that know.
I looked into the fuel injection and figured I could buy a complete Cherokee 4x4 with a 4.0 efi allready in it and transplant it. What do you all think. In the mean time I may throw a Weber on it.
There are some other parts that could be useful from the Cherokee. One piece front axle shafts, maybe find one with a Dana 44 rear axle if your lucky, and the transfer case could be used for a back up.
I apologize for coming across the way I did, I was not sure what you were wanting, and was confused. After re-reading my comment, it did sound a little like I was irritated with your post. I just wanted to let you know that I was not irritated, and I am glad that some of the others, figured out what you wanted. I never want to discourage anyone from asking questions, that is what this site is all about.
Thanks guys. I found a couple steering columns on ebay. Not sure if the engine runs or not because I cant get the ignition to stay on long enough to get it to start. Maybe I will get lucky. I was told it needed a carb but who knows. we shall see. Wish me luck. I found a complete Cherokee 4x4 locally for $1600, rusty but runs good(so the ad states).
My big problem is time though. I dont have time to swap drivetrains.
Thanks again
John
