I took off the renegade flares!

So, I finally did it! I was so sick of looking at those flares! So, I decided that I don't care what the paint may look like underneath, and took em off anyway. It took about 6 hours or so to get those things off, then another 2 hours to clean up the paint underneath. It really wasn't that bad underneath, I have one rust through on the passenger side (where the jeep decal goes). But, other than that, it cleaned up nice. I spray painted a couple places just temporarily till I can get it to a paint and body shop.

I wish I could upload some pics, but the day after I took em off, turns out my fuel pump AND my engine computer decides to die all of a sudden at the same time and also as we are looking through everything, we find that the wiring and electrical situation going on in the beast is totally messed up... the PO(s) really did a job on that... so right now we are sifting through all the electrical and cleaning it up, replacing the computer, replacing the fuel pump, and a new alternator, welding a leak in the gas tank, replacing reservoirs with leaks, new seals on the transfer case and gas tank cause they were leaking. and who knows what else we will find. I mean, hopefully it will be good for a while since we have replaced almost every part possible after breaking since I got it in March...

then next week we are putting on a 2.5 Rough Country susp. lift. And within the next couple weeks getting it to a paint and body shop.

But, I will get pics up as soon as I can! Just wanted to share with ya what's goin on lately with the YJ

Sounds like you will end up with a brand new Jeep by the time you're done. Keep us posted and remember, Pics or it didn't happen.

I know that it's one of those love em or hate em kind of deals... when I bought the YJ I loved the flares... but, I grew to HATE them. They made the Jeep look bulky to me, and I didn't have a whole lot of clearance for my tires, plus they were ugggglaaayyy. But, now that I have them off, I really like the look of the Jeep. Running with absolutely no flares at all which makes my tires look SWOLE (big) and kinda beefy, which they didnt before!!! lol I am gunna try and get some pics soon... but, as I said iits in the shop at the moment

Agreed. Just because they're unique doesn't make them look good. They're hideous

Those flares are what make it a renegade. I'm with teamhirev. You may just help me keep the value of my jeep up.

That is of course if there is a market for people to buy a renegade, lol.

I've actually received compliments and remarks about the flares from non-jeep enthusiasts. Some people want to know where I got them.

Then I explain its not after market.

Maybe we should start a "Save the Renegade" not for profit foundation.

I agree. I've had a number of other Jeep owners ask "What year it that Jeep...never seen one like that before...It's cool looking."

Maybe we have a new relative in the future...I think I see "FLARES" here!!!

A little "Family" resemblance???
