Inspection fail

Any sugestion , 1990 w/4.2 the reading of HC and CO are out of limeted , I install a new carb. plig wires and newe dist. and is runing fine but; a fail emission test any sugestion Thanks

You might need a new Cat but I would adjust Carb first. You might be running too rich.

I wish I could help. I had issues getting my YJ to pass California Smog Inspection back in January. But, mine is fuel injected and I had to rebuild the entire emission control system.

Being that your Jeep is carburated is probably one of the contributing factors. I can't speak from experience but, I know that there are a lot of older CJ's and YJ's here in Cali that have either been scrapped or had the fuel systems changed to fuel injection because these folks are having so much trouble getting the carburated models to comply with smog.

Pull a vacuum hose off and try it again or... On a Ford I had, I ran the mixture screws in so that it would barely run...passed every time. Then I'd reset them.
