Instriment panel

Ok so I have a 1990 yj with the 4.2l inline6 5 speed. I had just bought this and now just tightening up a few loose ends now but I took apart the dash because the tac. dont work but figured since I'm in there I would see if I could fix the dash lights so my L&R blinker, high beams, seatbelt, emiss maint work but my brake and 4wd light do not. I have not tried the upshift light yet. Are there any ways I can go about fixing this problem and is it even worth it. Thanks for any suggestions!

Not enough info to know exactly what you have going on but ...

Brake lights - test the switch on the top of the pedal for continuity when its switched, then check adjustment.

Dash lights - check the fuse, then work the dimmer switch back and forth and see if the lights blink. The switch gets corroded and can be opened up very easily to clean up the copper contacts inside.

4WD switch - it's on the firewall, make sure the vacuum line is connected, check the ground and make sure the single wire to the dash is connected. I think that wire is a ground that makes your light come on.

I'm sayin like on the dash the "brake" light doesn't come on or the 4wd light

Check the bulbs on both, then the connector on the proportioning valve under the master cylinder and the single wire on the top of the e-brake pedal (near the firewall).

The 4wd light is activated by the vacuum shift motor in the front axle. Its a direct connection from the light to the fuse to the switch in the motor.

The brake light has a plug on it at the emergency brake. Check that switch and make sure your connection is clean. Get some electrical connector cleaner at Walmart and clean all connections.

Back to the 4x4 light. If this is not functioning your axle may not be locking in. This means your not actually getting 4x4. As the name indicates Vacuum shift motor, the axle is locked in using Vacuum. [Personally the vacuum system is crap and can be bypassed]

There is a write up on it here

He has a '90 so the 4wd switch should be on the firewall. Has a single wire to the harness and a small vac hose off the manifold.
