Arrow Is $3500 for a 1989 a good deal?

Hey Guys,
Does this seem like a good deal? I am looking for my first Jeep to have basically as a toy. I am willing to do some work, but I have very little experience, knowledge and tools... but lots of will to learn. The jeep is for sale here...

http://albany.craigslist.org/car/371020435.html

I'm not sure if it is a 4 or 6 cylinder, but that is something I would definitely ask if it is worth calling.

Thanks!

Steve

Seeing as those are the only two engines available for that year, I am sure your right. It everything still works, and the body is solid, it is a good deal. If it does not run, not a good deal. Just make sure the body, and frame, isn't riddled with rust.

If its saying rusted parts are available then it wouldnt be worth it. If body parts need replacing you're probably looking a couple hundred for that and then repainting. If you paint it yourself it'll cost you atleast $100 for painting supplies. For comparison I"m selling my '89 in PA with no rot and ready to go for $4,000(hoping to sell that is).

I'm sure you can talk them down a bit on price. If you can get it for $3,200 or lower and it isnt a complete rust bucket go for it. Dont forget to make sure booth floor pans are still their

If that doesnt work out, I'm selling my YJ.

I bought an 88 YJ with a complete canvas top, bikini top and back wall and tonneau cover in Arizona with no rust or dents for $3400. Mine is the 258 CID with 31x10.5 I used to live in NY and wouldn't buy a car back there on a dare. If its been driven on your salt roads it has to be eaten up by now.

i lucked out and found mine in NY for 3700, 1994 6 cyl, no frame rust, and very little cosmetic rust here and there, not much, and no tub rust... i dunno if this helps, but you can kind of gauge off of what others paid for to see if its a good deal or not. but mine had a lot of miles... 142000 to be specific. haha

i paid 5200 for my 94. 3.5 inch lift 31x10.5 tires, new headers, exhaust, clutch, rebuilt tranny, hard and soft top, MINIMAL cosmetic rust and no frame rust whatsoever. Just that lil surface rust on the frame that bare metal gets after 13 years of salt. Its always been in NY (Central ny, aka the rust belt, where they not only use salt, but liquid salt, so that it gets in everything. Id just wait a little bit and find something better.

I paid $1900 for mine and it only had 110k on it. It came with two tops and knock on wood, no problems and minimal rust. It was sitting behind some ladies house, it needed to be cleaned but.....if you see one sitting dont be afraid to ask if its for sale, you might find a great deal that way!
