They knew everyone would want one eventually so they made extras.

manual transmission '89 yj

Hi Guys...howdy!

I have a 89 yj manual trans.
When it's snowing it's IMPOSSIBLE drive 2wd.....the jeep goes right and left and it's not easy keep it straight... ( i'm sure it's normal..)

So do you use 4wd H or L ( high or low.) ? on normal plan road....
I just wanna know if i can drive 4wd low for 30 miles on the snow ( of course ) without any damage at the trans...
I know that the question seems silly but it's my first jeep and i don't wanna screw up...
Also...when i put the 4wd , I MUST to back up to have it innested...? or not ?

I remember that a friend of mine had a CJ7 and he use to lock up the rear wheel..is the YJ the same ? or I have only to play with the stick from inside and that's it ??!!

thanks !!

4 LO is for trails or to use if stuck never drive in 4 Lo faster than 10 to 15 mph 4 High is what you want to use in snowy conditions

Thanks. I thought it was 89/90. So far my 4.2 has been bullet proof. after 21 years runs great, doesn't burn oil, etc. Although, has a slight rear main seal leak that I can live with.
