Junkyard tube doors

I found this on another site, & though y'all might want to follow it.

I am also working on this, & found some parts at the junkyard today that will get me to the next step.

Holding these up to my junk, they look very promising & with the dogleg bend on top, they remind me of half doors the way they are shaped.

I have tried this for my YJ. I now have one tube door, and one spare tire carrier. Looks pretty darn good if I do say so myself. I also made one of the pins in the door a bolt so that no one could walk away with them.

Good idea on the bolt! I think I might try to drill across the pins & use a small padlock like some hood pins have.

What are you doing to keep the door closed? Did you find a suitable latching system?

I pulled the locking mechanisms out of an old Chevy vans doors. I cut them to fit, then doctored them a little bit. I mainly looked for a vehicle that had the pins like the ones on my YJ. I will post some pics of it hopefully later today.

I did the same thing, only I was walking around in the Ford section of the Junkyard when i remembered to look for some latches.

The F250 ones are gonna work for me, and these are the type used on most Ford products.

Hey, don't sweat it. I finished mine tonight, & haven't posted any pics during the build. I have some pics, but tonight I rigged up the latch releases, using the triggers from the blazer racks & some rods I had. Not sure if they are from the racks, or some other junkyard car.

I'll get the finished pics soon, but here's a few to hold ya!

These are the mini Bear Claw latches.

Looks good. I used the handle and some cable to make the lever to release the door, so that I didn't have to turn around and unlatch the door. Just something that you might want to think about to make opening the doors easier. I like those mirror relocation brackets. Do you have a clear line of view on the passenger side mirror?
