I have tried this for my YJ. I now have one tube door, and one spare tire carrier. Looks pretty darn good if I do say so myself. I also made one of the pins in the door a bolt so that no one could walk away with them.
I pulled the locking mechanisms out of an old Chevy vans doors. I cut them to fit, then doctored them a little bit. I mainly looked for a vehicle that had the pins like the ones on my YJ. I will post some pics of it hopefully later today.
Hey, don't sweat it. I finished mine tonight, & haven't posted any pics during the build. I have some pics, but tonight I rigged up the latch releases, using the triggers from the blazer racks & some rods I had. Not sure if they are from the racks, or some other junkyard car.
I'll get the finished pics soon, but here's a few to hold ya!
Looks good. I used the handle and some cable to make the lever to release the door, so that I didn't have to turn around and unlatch the door. Just something that you might want to think about to make opening the doors easier. I like those mirror relocation brackets. Do you have a clear line of view on the passenger side mirror?
