LACK OF POWER / WONT GO OVER 60-MPH Help

Hello All,

I am new here and could use little help, I have a 90 wrangler YJ /6cyl, 4.2. Manual.

The jeep will not go over 50-55 mph. It is not missing at all, Just changed plugs, wires, cap, rotor, pcv valve, air filter & fuel filter.. still wont get out of its own way.The Jeep idles fine.. Just lost all my power!!!

Any suggestions?
Thanks for any info..

Ant....

When this happens it's usually the cat. Since you don't have one maybe the muffler has rusted internally, the baffles collapsed and has blocked the exhaust flow. If the muffler is new, possibly the accelerator pump in the carb.

Thats what I am thinking is the problem ( accelerator pump ) , But would like to make sure b-4 I buy a new carb or rebuild this one..

Today I hooked a fuel pressure gauge to the carb, Pressures around 4lbs, But when I get on it the prssure drops to like 1lb.. This should not happen, is this correct?

I will work on her some more tomorrow..

Thanks for your input guys!!!!

Also might be worth the time to check this out as well: As I have always found on my older jeeps it usually more than one thing.

The fuel pump might be worn where it won't push enough fuel at a higher rpm. If you're near or over 100,000 I would replace it anyway. I replaced the one on my 89 4.2 when I hit 95,000 as preventative maintenance, even though it was working. They're not that expensive.

Replaced fuel pump today & it did not fix my problem, I guess it looks like it is in the carb,

I have a couple questions as to what carb I should go with..

I have been looking at a Weber kit, a motor craft or a Holley or rebuild my existing carb.. I would like to swap over to fuel injection but cant afford that right now so I will go with a carb for now...

Any suggestions would help me make my mind up, all the ones I have looked at are about 300.00...

Thanks all,
