Laws for taking off the doors

I live in British Columbia Canada and was told you could drive with out doors and even seen a few jeeps going doorless. So I decided to take mine off, but got a verbal warning from police that I need to have at least the half doors and side mirrors. I was gonna look into getting mirrors that would mount with out doors but no point now.

Is this the law everywhere or is it different where you live.

In Pennsylvania you need doors and mirrors. Some officers wont bother you, others will. To stay legal I bought the tube doors and replacement mirrors. That's the next best combo to going doorless, IMO, and it keeps you legal in Pa

I'm in Texas and haven't had my doors on in almost a month. I have never had any problems with the police. Previous owner did move the mirrors to attach on the windshield. So technically I still have them even though I can't see much in them.

I'm in Tennessee and have not had any problems running without doors. I do have mirrors mounted on the windshield.

Cali does require mirrors, On my '90 I got the Defiant mirrors (before he disappeared and left everybody hanging, I actually got a set).
I drove 3 summers with no doors, 2 of them with the Defiant Mirrors with no issues...

When I sold my '90 those mirrors went with the Jeep, my '93 that replaced it had half doors, so.... I use those...

The below link is a VERY recent ruling in BRITISH COLUMBIA about TUBE doors on a Jeep. in essence, the court finds that the DOORS that were installed MUST be attached at all times and that "Adventure Doors (tube doors)" do NOT meet the requirement of Doors that were initially installed.

So if Adventure Doors are not allowed I'd hazard a guess and say NO to door less as some of the points she made about the Adventure Doors can also apply to door less.

Theres also links the Judge highlighted about doors so you can probably read those (Section 6 explains door less).

Provincial Court of BC Judgments

So...keep your Half-Doors on in British Columbia.

PO attached aftermarket mirrors to windshield, the passenger side is invisible if I have my upper half doors on and the drivers I can see only if I lean over a few inches but it keeps me legal. Don't know if doorless is technically legal here in NY or not but I've never heard of anyone being hassled for it

Remember:
there is always a discrepancy as the Jeep doors were designed to be removed, this was intentionally done by Jeep.
Most laws FAIL to take this into account, and WE get caught up in the red tape, but read the laws carefully.
Do you think they would outlaw rolling down windows that were designed to roll down? Same logic...

Well yu said it right there in your post! It is illegal you just don't obey it, that was all I was saying "if you want to be legal simply throw on a drivers side mirror and your good" if not that's your purgative as well. Wasn't trying to step on any toes

MICHIGAN VEHICLE CODE (EXCERPT)
Act 300 of 1949

257.708 Mirrors.
Sec. 708.

A person shall not drive a motor vehicle on a highway which is so constructed or loaded as to prevent the driver from obtaining a view of the highway to the rear by looking backward from the driver's position, unless the vehicle is equipped with a mirror located so as to reflect to the driver a view of the highway to the rear of the vehicle. In addition all motor vehicles shall be equipped with an outside rearview mirror on the driver's side which shall be positioned to give the driver a rearviewing angle from the driver's side of the vehicle, except a motor vehicle licensed as an historic vehicle if the vehicle was not originally equipped with an outside rearview mirror. Rearview mirrors may be positioned on the helmet or visor worn by the operator of a motorcycle if the helmet is securely attached to the head of the operator. Every commercial vehicle of 1/2 ton capacity or more, operating upon the public highways of this state, shall be equipped with 2 mirrors, 1 on each side, adjusted so that the operator shall have a clear view of the highway behind the commercial vehicle. The outside mirrors shall not be considered to be a part of the vehicle for the purpose of determining the maximum width under section 717.

I use a pipe strap on the roll bar with a mirror glued to it. I have never heard of a law stating where the mirror had to be.

Can you actually see out of it? Mine are windshield mounted. See about half the left one and the right one is just there to keep me legal

You are a LEO's wet dream. The guys I know love to pull smartass punks over, it (makes their day). Attitude can make life easy or a pita, you reap what you sow. I have been pulled over for lights uncovered, no front license, etc. I've never got even a fix it ticket. I don't BS them, I say I know it's not legal and explain how I'll fix it and I'm on my way.
