Hey I don't have a car lift to lift my jeep up to work on it. What could I use that's safe to lift up my jeep on all sides? So it's even. My jack will only lift one corner of it.
Most floor jacks will lift from 5 to 20 inches. Measure from your jacking location to the ground and compare that number to the lift height spec on whatever jack you're looking at.
what are you planning to do to your Jeep once it is up in the air? That will dictate how to support it. Jack stands will be fine if you place them under the axles, but may not extend enough if you need to support it from the frame. I have seen several ways to put a lift under the jack stands ranging from wooden structures to cement blocks. I am very leery of that practice, but it can be done.
I've seen people use cinder blocks as spacers under Jack stands.. It looks plain scary, and I would never get under it. Personally I use wood but only if no other option is available.
As far as spacers I am a carpenter and wood is an excellent spacer. I watch cranes use large wood platforms to support their cranes that weigh SEVERAL tons. The trick is to use the largest base possible to put your jack stands on.
I found 12 ton jack stands to be great. They're more expensive, but are typically much taller and much better when you need to support the frame rails on a lifted Jeep.
I pulled the trany on mine with 2" lift & 235/75/15 tires sitting on the ground with no issues. I do have a pit in my garage so that helped but if you have that much lift you should have no problems.
