Looking to buy a 1993 Wrangler...what do you think its worth?

I hope this is an appropriate section for this thread. I found a 1993 Wrangler, 2.5L 4cyl, 5 speed. Forgot how many miles. Soft top, half doors. It lost 5th gear (best case the C clip is spent and it popped out), needs a driver's floorpan, has a hole in the fender under the driver's side "jeep" stamped logo, is missing some steering column bushing causing play int he steering column. The frame is not too bad, some surface rust, but I could not find any rot. The interior is not the greatest, missing the carpet and is kinda ratty looking. Whats a wrangler in this condition worth? I was hoping to get it close to $1000 potentially, or is this still to much?

I'd say about 1000. Jeeps rusted and beat to hell still hold a little value. You thinking about buying a project jeep?

I'll start by discrediting myself... I'm totally new to jeeps but I have to agree with cakes.. that thing isn't worth too much.

My 2cents: if this is a project jeep, do yourself a favor and look for a good base to start with. I say that because that's how I looked for mine. I did want it to be somewhat mechanically sound but in the end it was all about the frame and tub for me. Right now she's driveable but I need to fix brakes, oil pressure gauge, etc.. little things. I bought my jeep because of what I could do to it, not it's current condition.

My plan was to set a price I wanted to pay, leaving money left over for whatever I wanted to do to it. Then weigh what you are willing to fix yourself vs what the problems are when you buy it.

Mine was 3k.. she's an 88, as my username suggests 6 cyl 5 speed and was super clean. They're out there. Don't be in a rush and be VERY thorough when you inspect it.

I personally wouldn't spend more than around $750 for it. Like 88 said, they're out there, just have to be patient. I agree with buying a frame and tub in good condition that will last and the rest can be upgraded or repaired in time.

I think $1000.00 in in the ball park for a fixer upper like that one. If you are buying it intending to work on it then body rot can be fixed but frame rot is more of a problem. Mine has some holes through the body which I intend to fix. My frame is in pretty good shape and the underneath has been done up with POR15. I touched the underneath up last summer with more POR15 and the frame is looking good. Now got to get to work on the body possibly this summer.

I found my 89yj, 6cyl 5spd for $500, with 63,000 original miles. It had been sitting for 5 years. Hole in the drivers floor was the only rust. No brakes. Changed to a weber carb and hei. Got free wheels and 31s. I've got a total of $1800 in it now. And I've put 9000 miles on it in the last 10 months. They are out there. If you see a jeep sitting, go ask if it's for sale! You might get lucky. Of course, now mines sitting cause I just bought a 13 rubicon. Lol. Jason

My '93, same engine, with 80k has a completely rust free body and frame. The carpet and seats were rough. Those were the only issues with it and I bought it for $5000, if that helps at all. I think mine was in perfect condition, considering its age. As the others have said, I wouldn't pay more than a grand.

$1,000 IF you can drive it home.

No more than $600 if you have to tow it.

Also, make sure the frame is not rusted at the back and the front. Yeah, you can patch in repair kits but if your lookin to build up a rig start w/a solid frame.

Thanks for the input. Ill have to go back and double check the frame and really spend some time underneath inspecting. Ive been looking at tons of pictures and reading about the frames and where to look. Seems like the most common place is at the rear leaf mounts. Ill see what I can do and try to post back some more on here.
