Make sure your hood is clipped!

So today I was on my way to work after school... doing 65 over the mississippi, when all of a sudden my hood flies up, hits my windshield, cracks it, and renders me blind to everything in front of me. So i slam on my brake as quick as i can and pull off to the side... Come to find out one of my friends had unclipped my hood during school as a "prank" and thought I would notice... Well I didn't. This was probably the scariest thing I have EVER experienced, and never wish to go through it again. Long story short, I have to get a new hood, and windshield, gonna run me about 300 bucks. So do me a favor... and make sure your hood is CLIPPED before you take her out. I don't wish this experience upon anyone.

i'd make my idiot friend pay for it. glad to hear you are ok though. having to dish out $300 is a better alternative to being seriously injured or worse.

Yeah, it definately is. And he's poor... I know there's no way he could afford it. I'm not an ass so I wouldn't do that to my no-longer-friend. But thanks man.

Yeah... I'm pretty sure I'll get into a habit of ALWAYS makign sure my hood is clipped before I get in now... This was no doubt the scariest thing that's ever and might ever happen to me. Just thinking about the loud bang when the hood hit the window and my tires screeching... ugh i just can't believe it happened... But it could of been alot worse... could be seriously hurt. Or dead.

That sucks. You could have hit the bridge and that would have been really bad.

I had the hood come up on an escort once...

As for the Jeep, I was real close one day... I was working on hooking up my trail lights, slapped the hood back down and ran into the house to grab stuff to run to town (wallet, etc...) and of course, I forget to latch them when I came back out. 1/2 way to town I passed a semi at 55mph and it pulled up hard on the left side I thought "oh (censored)" and was prepared for it to slap up. The clip in the middle held up, I then pulled over and latched them. ...phew!

that prank could of killed you and others on the road .
i hope you at least explained this to the person that did it so he won't ever do that to any of the other jeepers out there.

Do you have a center hood latch on your Jeep ?

I think I will order locking hood clips

Your "friend" could have killed you! Joking around is one thing, but messing with someone's junk, that could kill them is something else.... make the dude pay, BIGTIME! They need to learn a lesson, poor or not!

Making someone pay for something like this isn't being an @$$. You could have died like everyone said.

If he's poor, make him give you 20 a week for 15 weeks. Pay in installments.

My friends and I pull pranks all the time but we know that if a prank we pull causes damage to anothers property then we are responsible. Ever hear the expression "You play you pay"?

1. He pays for it! Damages, not to mention installation fees and whatever cost may be incurred for fixing the problem. I wouldn't let him just come dump a bunch of parts in my front yard and call it even. He pulled a prank and it cost money and coulda hurt you. He shoulda thought about how poor he was before he did it.

2. He gets his @$$ WHIPPED everytime I see him until he does.

That would be my logic.

A friend of mine thought it would be funny to decorate my Jeep in Blue Fedex packing tape. I am a big Colt's fan, so he tape a huge COLTS #1 on the back window, lined my entire jeep like pinstripes, taped my wheels like horshoes, tape all around my door frame seals, taped over my door handles, taped my headlights and tail lights, taped my antennae, and even my windshield wipers. It was pretty funny when I walked into the parking garage and saw my Jeep all decked out. But the fun was over when I started to take the tape off to be able to get into my Jeep and the tape separated into several small pieces all over my jeep. The adhesive stuck to my jeep and little specs of the fed ex coloring was stuck on.

It immediatly went from a joyful prank to a "I'm gonna kill whoever did this" prank. I didn't know who did it, and instead of getting mad and asking who did, I played it off as it was the best prank ever. Finally somebody owned up to it, saying how they got me good. I got them back as I handed them towels and goo gone to go and fix my jeep. He was a server for me and I was a restaurant manager. I was closing that night when he left at 9pm. I left at 1am to go and get in my Jeep and he was still there detailing it. He had about 60% of it cleaned off, and then handed me 100 bucks for me to get it detailed to take care of the rest.

He was an awesome employee with good intentions, but he paid for his mistake in the prank. The same should be done with your friend.

Being poor does not give him a an out on this one. Nor should you feel bad because he is poor. If he can't afford the money, then have him do other stuff for you. By not doing anything it sends the wrong message. Glad your okay and no one was hurt.

that happened once to my in my lil shelby charger, the windshield wipers gave their life to save the windshield. i just drove with no hood for a week or two.

ive drove my jeep w/o the hood latched once i noticed the hood flapping like it was trying to fly away i stopped and latched it. these hoods flap when they are not latched...hell even when they are latched in strong enough winds.

yes it was a bad prank that could have hurt or killed someone, im going to assume your in high school and dont take what im going to type too personally, KIDS DO STUPID THINGS CUZ THEY DONT KNOW ANY BETTER, i can guarantee with a fair degree of certainty that everyone here did something stupid that could have hurt or killed someone if the right circumstances were there. yes it was dumb, yes you should slap his ass silly, and yes i agree he should atleast pay some portion of the bill how ever he can, as its only partially his fault the rest of the fault lies with you in not paying attention to your hood trying to fly away before it popped up.

ok my 2 cents are out there

I took care of him today after school... He started makin fun of me for it.. so yeah. He won't be seeing out of his left eye anytime soon. And as far as my hood trying to fly away before it popped up... that didn't happen. There were no warning signs... It wasn't jumping up and down before it popped up. It just straight popped up. And yes I had the center latch behind the grill latched, it just didn't hold up.

So... does anyone have a hood that is Flame Red for sale? The paint code is PR4. I found a few hoods at junk yards but don't really want to go through the hassle of getting them painted. And if anyone happens to have a windshield frame(with a windshield) that's the same color, I'd be happy to buy it.

You punched him? I would have just taken him to court. That's a bunch of bullsh**. If you did that to your friend wouldn't you suffer the consequences just like him? Think about the intentions of what he did. Why else would you unclip the hood latches? The only intention was to let the hood fly up while driving. He should suffer the consequences.

I did... trust me. And I pounded out the majority of the dent... i figured hey... i'm gettin a new hood probably anyway so why not try poundin it out since its either fix it or get a new one and junk that one. I got the majority of it out but it's not perfect and there is still creases.
