I've only had my YJ for about 6 weeks, but I do a LOT of driving... about 1000 miles a week or so.... and I mix it up between interstate, side roads, mountains, dirt, mud, and everything else (I'm a home inspector - some of the places folks build homes staggers the mind!)
Mine is a 1995 6cyl, 5speed, 31" tires, mostly stock otherwise.. 185k miles (this morning, anyways - day ain't over!)
Here's what I've found:
Hardtop ON, Doors ON = 20.12 MPG
Hardtop OFF, Doors OFF = 18.08 MPG
Hardtop ON, doors OFF = 19.89 MPG
Fair numbers, I think...
Last week I put an el-cheapo free-flow air filter on the thing - and now, hardtop ON, doors OFF 50% of the time, I averaged 22.89 MPG. I am happy! Now I'm wondering how much more I can eek outta this thing with a new exhaust manifold, free-flow CAT & muffler, and what else I can to to free it up some - any ideas?
Oh, and I AM going with the K&N this week - I just wanted to see if there was any difference! There is!!
