So last night I came across a friend selling a 93 with both hard and soft tops for a price too good to pass on. It needs a starter to run (hopefully just that). It has 193k and a 5 speed.

The jeep has rot on the floors, rockers, doors and fenders. It has 31x10.5x15 good years and a smittybuilt lift. Being a truck guy I knew the tires and tops were worth more than I paid for it so I couldn't pass ($750).

I'm going to post some pictures when I take a few but what should I be looking for with this? It seems to leak a little gear oil from the back of the rear diff so hopefully a gasket and cover should fix that problem. The starter has been a PITA to go after and I think I may have ruined one of those male torx heads. Am I biting off a massive project going after the floor pans and probably all the way to the back of the seats. Where should I go for panels?

Also there seems to be 1x1 square stock between the tranny skid plate and the tranny is that cause for concern or just by product of the lift? Any help/ pointers anything would be appreciated.

I would say you done pretty good. Especially if you don't even plan on doing anything with it. The doors would sell easy where I'm at for 300-400 for both. The top and hardware 500, the hard top 300-400. The windshield lights 60 plus the mounts another 50. Wheels and tires. 300-400. Nerf bars 50-75. Roll bars 100 interior a pretty penny. I can go on and on. But either way you look at it you made a pretty good profit if you decide to part it out.

If you are planning to keep it I would look at how much work it's going to be. The 2.5l isn't a strong motor in my experiences. At 193k things are going to start failing on you. But that's a given with the jeep name. It's what we signed up for. But it looks good. And I can't see any scenario that you end up losing on this deal. You done good. And idk the placement for the starter on the 2.5l but on my 4.0 it took me literally maybe 10 minutes to R&R it.

I'm not bad but I'm on my back in the dirt for this one. It's not running and it's not in the shop since the work truck is in there so I don't think that's a viable option. I'm going to try to cut a piece out of a soda can and pound the socket on to it and see if I can shim it. If not I'm just going to dope the socket up with JB weld let it sit for 24 hours and try again.

Check the frame for rust..if the pans are shot chances are good it's spread...check the front fuel tank crossmember. Square stock is normal t case drop for a lift above 2". Safety t cap has all the sheet metal and frame sections you may need...They weld up right nice. My frame was pretty rusted when I started...5 hrs of cutting and welding it's good as new....

It looks like the frame is pretty good. I got right under it and someone patched it up. It looks like it was done at night in the dark with a cigarette lighter, but it seems pretty solid. Here are some pictures as it sits right now. I managed to pull the starter last night by shimming the socket with a piece of a soda can. It was full of water. So someone had fun with it. I pulled all but the drivers seat out so once I get the starter out I can move it into my shop and get cutting and welding.

No time to work on the YJ last night. I put an add a leaf lift on my ranger instead. In a holding pattern until the new starter comes in. I want to make sure it runs before I start throwing money into other parts of it. I found a guy locally with brand new uninstalled floor pans for $100 bucks. That would be cool if that were to work out.

Just a thought here, but it being a '93 and a 2.5L, doesn't it have the AX5 manual transmission? Have you tried to push start it?
Also, I found these work really well for stripped bolt heads or nuts:
9 Pc 3/8 in. Drive Metric Bolt Extractor Socket Set

Interior looks nice. Is that the Rio Grande interior? I like the tan better than the grey I have in mine.
