my hood scoop i custom put on my yj

Ok so i went to the junk yard the other day and there it was. I think it was a 1977 pontiac firebird with the shaker ram air hood. Well well well I've been looking for a cool hood scoop to modify and put on my jeep and though to myself this is it.

so i bought the scoop 17.00 dollars and came home with it.

the hood scoop was in terrible shape with about 9 different coats of paint and some cracks on it.

well i spent around 4 hours fixxing the scoop and taking parts off of it to get it ready for the install.

after that i took my jeep hood off and traced an outline of the scoop on my hood and cut the hood using a air powered cutting tool . " to the point of no return"

well the cut marks came out ok the next step was to rivet this scoop to the hood so i put about 20 3/16 rivets in it.

well still not done yet cause it looks unfinished.

so next step was to make this scoop part of the hood.

so i went to pep boys bought a fiberglass repair kit and layed a nice layer of fiberglass on the scoop to the hood.

next i had to use fiberglass hair bondo to make it conture to the the hood.

i spent around a totall of 12 hours working on this.

I hope yall like it

btw i changed the name to my jeep..

it is now called shaker after the firebirds shaker ram air induction hood scoop...

unk:

I making my scoop out of this:

I'm going punch out some breather holes on the sides, plus it will have a access door on the top.
I will be able to do minor repairs without lifting the hood.

The shaker looks great. I like the paint scheme. I considered a trans am 6.6 scoop when I did mine. I ended up just building mine out of 16 ga sheet steel. Hand rolled all of it. Probably 70+hrs in it. Welded it the hood after cutting openings in the back of the hood. I had all intentions of making it a functional Cowl-induction. Its a kinda cross breed between a mid 80's camaro, late model pontiac firebird, and sun coast customs cowl hood for a 69 camaro. It whipped my butt. I gave up for the time being on the cowl induction, but will complete it soon.

I gotta say that 70 hour hood looks great, but I don't have that kinda time or craftsmanship so I like the $35.00 12hr +/- one better. just saying
