I have replaced my rear main seal twice, oil pan gasket 3 times, and used 2 different types of pan gaskets. Oil is still, once the engine is cranked and oil pressure is in normal range, is pouring out the back of the pan where the pan gasket meets the bearing cap. So what is the consensus rear main seal or pan gasket.....

now be honest with you i don't know which one you should do since you have done both before. Now heres what i think. I've done rear main seal and oil pan in mine 1990 yj and what i did was use a new thick rubber gasket already formed to oil pan from napa. Worked great but i also used the black RTV liquid rubber gasket from autozone mainly to hold the oil pan gasket in place and it does add seal protection to it aswell. Same thing on my rear main seal. I made sure that the rear main seal was the same kind of good quality rubber from napa and then also used the RTV. Then i let it sit for 24hrs before adding oil and running jeep. Worked great for me. Now also when you redo the pan and seals check for cracks or anything warped or like old peaces of gasket left on the engine. Good luck.

Always use rtv on oil and water, but never on tranny fluid. The "right stuff" works on tranny fluid.

Just replace the gaskets again and be sure to seal every thing good. It's about all you can do unless you can figure out which one is leaking.

Since you state that oil pours out when the motor warms up and is not just a drip, I am courious if maybe the oil pan its self may have a small gap in it. Maybe you have hit something on the trail and it was enough to cause warpage along the seam? Maybe try repalcing the bearing cap? Just a thought. Hope you get things figured out.

I had a similar problem with my jeep. Turned out that i had slightly bumped the pan and it made a small bend in the lip of the pan so the gasket wouldnt sit right. RTV would hold it for a day or so but then itd go right back to leaking all over the place again.

Another vote for a new oil pan... The typical quality of gaskets is not so bad that you would need to replace them more than once in a short time frame.

I voted RMS and i know this wont fix your problem...

but what oil are you running? You should try running a 5w30 full synthetic (i use mobil 1)

I had oil dripping out of my rms and when i went with that oil it went away...isnt a full out "fix" but works great

sorry if that sounds stupid lol
