i just purchased a 1990 wrangler with a 2.5 that doesnt have a motor in it would a 1995 2.5 motor need any additional wiring or should it bolt and plug right in
If you are having to put in a motor, why not put a larger one in? Say a I-6, or V-6, or V-8. Or do you want to keep everything original? I would think the 95 motor would plug in just fine.
90 2.5L is fuel injected but its its TBI and the 95s were MPFI i beleive. would be different computer and electronics. i would think ud need a new wiring harness and the comp, other than that, it oughta drop right in
I just did the opposite. Bought a 95 with a blown 4 banger, and replaced it with a 2.5 from a 90.
Moved from old engine to new:
Distributor
All sensors
Intake & FI
Water Pump (actually bought new - cheap insurance)
Flywheel (bought new pilot/clutch/pressure plate/TO bearing)
The 95 had MPI and the 90 TBI as has been said.
The distributor from the 95 had a four-wire tail coming out of it, but the 90 didn't.
There were places for the sensors, and some appeared to be different, so to play it safe I swapped them.
The 95 was set up for a serpentine belt, so I had to use the harmonic balancer from the 95 to drive accessories. Note that the water pumps rotate in different directions between the two. The HB had to be driven back farther onto the end of the crank to make it line up with the other pulleys. It almost has to rub the timing chain cover.
The flywheel form the 95 had 4 notches on opposite sides, but the 90 had perhaps twice that number. I swapped that because I was concerned about "confusing" the computer when the crank sensor started counting them.
With those changes, it was a direct swap. I'd assume going the opposite way would work as well. No wiring changes were needed................chim
