I am looking to buy a jeep but need opinions on if its a good deal with the few issues it has. Its a 1988 Wrangler 4cyl, 4x4 with 166k miles. Exterior looks real clean, no rust and tires good. It has 35s.

The AC does not work and interior could use a little work. The CD player in dash did not power on but was told it was supposed to work, so not sure there.

The biggest concern I had was when driving the gas needle was popping between 3/4 full and half. It didnt appear to be measuring right.

I know being a jeep and this old its going to have some issues, but I dont want to be buying a huge problem money pit.

Price is $3250.

It's a tough call boss. It sounds like it may have some electrical issues, so I'd pass on it because I hate wiring. The 4 banger engine won't be any fun with the 35s either. Gas gauges are a pretty common failure on these things, I'm not sure ow hard those issues are to work out because mine still works fine. These things are all money pits FYI, it doesn't really matter what kind you get, you're going to want to make it cool by spending a lot of money on it.

As long as your mechanical inclined and don't mind turning wrenches sometimes I'm sure there's nothing you can't fix. I got a 90 YJ had 77,000 2.5 4 cylinder no air. After 5 years of daily driving,I replaced motor with a long block of same size. I put on new steering box, rebuilt front and back brakes including replacement of lines completely. New 31" 15 x 10 on 4.5x5 centers outlaw 2's, sound bar with pioneer radio unit, smitty built locking console, midland 40 ch cb. Replaced top couple of times. Upgraded wiper linkage (riptech.net) and rubber cowl under windshield. And many other little odds and ends. I love it it's my daily driver. First jeep I've ever had.

where are you? here in TX that would be an OK price. body and top look decent. I got stock wheels on my beater 4 cylinder YJ and it runs OK. can keep up with traffic, mostly. mine cuts out if the tank gets below a quarter. what do you need a cd player for? can't you sing? take off the side door curtains and roll up the rear window curtain and let the air flow through. that's what it is about.
