Hey everyone, I have a '93 wrangler and I have a problem. I love hunting and fishing etc. The only thing that I don't like about my jeep is that it is a soft top and I cant leave guns, bow and all kinds of gear in it while I am out and about. Does anybody have any ideas to help me build or something that I can buy to make a lockable storage in the back of my Jeep? Thanks fellas and look forward to chatting in this forum!

Theres a few companies that make lockable storage compartments-the biggest being one under the back seat that slides out...a smaller one that mounts behind the seat...down to the tuffy boxes that mount on each side over fender....but youve got a *bigger* problem...none of these boxes will work for you because of the size of yer stuff...you got too much stuff! (george carlin voice).

suggest you buy several lengths of aircraft security rope covered in nylon and a set of padlocks.....

they do make lockable long gun mounts- check with your local police department- one of the local smokeys should have a shotgun mount in the car-that`ll give ya an idea or two....or four....hey, cant have too many guns in there!....

"excuse me officer, I need a mount in my jeep to stash my M-60"
"please step out of the car, sir.

if you dont use the back seat than make a box the size of the cargo area but no taller than the tailgate make it accesable only from the rear and lock the tailgate

You may be able to build a box on the floor behind the front seat to hold rifles. You will have the length you need there. As for the bow they can get a little harder to find a home for. Maybe you could mount a lockable bow case across the roll bar in the back window.

Thanks for the cool links major, I'll definitley use that once im in the field (gun out of case), but that wont help his cased secure situation.Local laws for alot of areas wont let you travel that way, and I, like b-killin what something that is secured /case styled to be able to secure it in populated areas...

What I was thinking about doing to solve this problem...for the rifle anyway. Is to take a rifle case that you can mount to a four wheeler(case opens only out the small stock area at rear of case)drill a hole at either end,to line up with my bars (at whatever length)take that flat 1" wide steel "belt" with holes in it (tie strap maybe?)make a loop around bars with it.Put a flat machine screw through overlapped holes from the inside-to -out of the steel loop. mount case onto screws, that are on bars. screw down from inside case by drilling a larger hole in case directly acrooss from mounting hole to allow for long socket with nut in it to pass through and screw down mounting loop screw to the case.Hopefully I will be able to get as large of a washer as possible in there as well so the case wont easily be torn from the screw.Once the rifle is locked in the case,no one will be able to get at the nuts to unscrew the case. I would assume a similar set up would work for a bow case. And any "snug" issues with the 1" belt around your jeeps bars could be solved with rubber strips. Im in construction so plan on using E.P.D.M. roof rubber for that.and this way I can take it off when im not using my sport weapons.
