New Jeep, No Keys! Help.

I have a new addition to my 4 wheel drive collection.

It's a 91' Wrangler that came to me with NO keys. It's a long story I won't get into.

I'm new to Jeeps, so what's the easiest way to replace the tumbler? And does anyone have any schematics for the steering column?

Thanks for your help.

And no the Jeep isn't stolen It is titled in my name.

That ignition switch is very easy to change. I haven't done it in a few years, but I can recall that it didn't take more than a half hour. Can't remember what I paid for the switch, but I remember that I was poor at the time so I don't think it was very much.

If I remeber right, the toughest part was pulling the steering wheel to get that sleeve off. Stil not too bad, though.

My memory may be faulty, so hopefully someone else will chime in.

I'm pretty sure it's set up the same as a GM column. If so, all you have to do is pull the steering wheel (using a bolt-grip puller, if you don't have one, you can probably rent one for free at a local parts store), remove the "lock plate", and then just pop the cylinder out and put your new one in. Thinking more about it, I'm almost certain the YJ column is the same as a GM, because it is the GM design, same as the multi-function switch (turn signals, high beams, wipers), and the headlight switch.

I called them. They said for that year it's a hit or miss to cut a key that will work and they want $50 for the tumbler which does not include cutting the keys. JCW has the tumbler and keys for $25 so they are on order.

I did get the tumbler out last night thanks for your help. There's a spring loaded keyway near the back of the tumbler that needs to be pushed in, then the entire tumbler pulls right out. Of course the steering wheel has to come off to access this. But it is out and I can at least steer the truck, now onto getting it running again.
