New to forum, new project jeep!! need Help!!

I just purchased a 1993 Sahara. Got it from a transmission shop that had put a lien on it because the guy didn't pay for all the work that was done. 119,000K on the motor. The shop had done a rebuild on the tranny, transfer case, and rear diff. Picked it up for $3500. Seemed like a good deal to me. Motor feels strong for the most part.

The bad:
-It has a popping in the rear when I am hitting bumps (maybe shocks, or springs???? any ideas???)
-Sometimes when I have it in 1st gear with the clutch pressed in it will rev up about 300-400rpms. (not sure why it does this, only occasionally though??)
-Locks need changing ( I already found some replacement ones online that I think will work.)

Anyways these are the things I have noticed thus far. If there are other things to look for please let me know.

Now for the fun!!
-I need a lift, but I only want to go about 2.5 to 3.5 Inches. Curious whats the best for the buck?
-I want to put some sort of a lining on the inside. Which one should I go with?

I'm not looking to get to crazy with this rig. Mostly a moderate trail ride, some mudding, and some mile crawling, nothing crazy. Any other performance mods that people would recommend would be very helpful, and in an order of priority would be great as well.

I HAVE PICS COMING SOON!! I'm just not sure how to do it if someone could let me know that would be great. Thanks for the time and feel free to throw any ideas at me.

welcome from a fellow yj guy. hurry up wit dem pics.

rough country makes a good yj kit, rancho, sky jacker are all fine, and well priced. old man emu is the best, but expensive.

i'd look at shocks first for the noise, probably pretty old. but keep in mind if you do a lift, you will be replacing them, so don't go buy stock shocks if you're gonna replace them

Lift kits...go with an Old Man Emu or Rubicon Express lift kit.

Lining..... You can go DIY with herculiner or durabak, or let the pros rhinoline it.

Ohh and Welcome to the forum....and how is Oregon treating you? I miss it.

Noise- Would have to hear it to be sure but, possible leaf spring slap or loose shock.

Abnormal Engine Rev- Very possible POS feedback carb. Suggest Nutter Bypass first, then possible carb upgrade. Weber makes a pricey upgrade but I prefer the Motorcraft 2100 uprgrade, plus it's cheaper!

Lift- Remember, the higher the lift the less center of gravity(get wider tires!)

Lining-Rhino Line!

In regards to the engine rev. It actually only does it when I first fire up the Jeep when it is cold. And it only does it for about 3-5 minutes. When it is doing this though there is a very loud vibration that sounds like it is coming from the rear. It probably makes that noise when I'm driving as well I just can't hear it. Any ideas on what could be vibrating loose. It doesn't look like its the hard top but I might not be looking for the right thing. Thanks again for the help. And I am still working on pics. The lady has the camera.

maybe exhaust vibrating and hitting the frame or crossmember.
