New yj/gm conversion

I'm getting into an 88 yj build. Don't know much about the jeep side of my engine swap but as for the perfomance and fab side of it I do know well. This will be my third engine swap but like I said I don't know much about jeeps other than the research I've been doing online. I may need a few pointers through this build so if you've gone through a project like this before I am open to any suggestions or comments. Hope to hear what yall have to say!

Well with the power I'm wanting to put in it I'll probably have to get into drive train too. I'm not sure if everything will hold up

I know I'll eventually rebuild it from the ground up but I want to start with the engine and transmission swap.

What is the jeep now? 4 or 6 cylinder? What are you using for a mill?

A 355 with vortec heads maybe a vortech procharger , but with no procharger I'm probably looking at 400 to 450 horse

Id say with that combo your prolly more around the 300-325 horse mark honestly unless its over 12 compression. You can leave the ax15 tranny in it and it will be fine for a long time. Dodge uses them in their V8 Dakotas.

Yea the motor I'm getting is from my father in law and it dynoed 435hp 402lb torque but I do have to rebuild it cuz it spun a main but I'm gonna try to go with all the same parts to try and keep that. Honestly I'd be happy with 350hp but if thats what it has the more the merrier. I was thinking about going with a th400 or 350 trans, but I'm open minded with the whole project

Thats sounds like an aweful lot for a 30 over 350 to me. He must have some serious compression or something....regardless if you change the tranny you will have to get an adapter to run the transfer case.

Yea it sounds like alot but I also thought that you can't get 900hp out of a naturally aspirated pump gas motor but I had one in an airboat

Look up airboat dyno on YouTube thats the motor I think it's the first video and yea it's only a 600 ci motor it's actually sitting in my brothers car right now. The video was from when it was a 572 and it dynoed at 827hp then but that was before we lost the oil plug while we were fishing and burnt it up and got it rebuilt. Alot of ppl in bow fishing still to this day say it doesn't have that kind of power but we have the dyno sheets to show for it

No the aircraft engines aren't reliable enough most airboats run gm motors now
