NEWBIE looking to BUY help please

Hi everyone so my grandam just took a crap on me and im looking into buying a wrangler because ive always wanted one and i hear theyre really good vehicles. Plus I live in MI so i want a jeep for the winter. But I need one thats not going to give me problems and i dont have to worry about it breaking down on me. I NEED minimal to no problems im sick of worrying about my vehicle breaking down.
I dont know what to look for but im interested in this one.
Let me know what kind of questions I should ask or have my boyfriend (who is a hillbilly) look for when we check it out.

93 jeep wrangler NICE

Anything helps. Also is the price fair?

Muchas Gracias

Living where you do make sure to check for any rust on the body and frame. A little should be expected.

(Also........if you tried to post a link, it didn't work.)

Where in Michigan are you?

One thing I would certainly be on the look out for is the transmission. Additionally, the mileage is going to be an issue too.

What's the price range you looking at?

your ad didn't post,

if you are investing a vehicle from 93 you need to consider there is going to be some maintenance required in a 20 year old SUV.

As for wrangler you should look for 1991 and up as they have fuel injection. you could get between 2-6k$ decent yj/tj with little to no work necessary condition. Should expect some surface rust. I was getting mine half a year ago and was checking carefully but forgot to look few palces that i'm fixing now so check yours carefully main things to look for: undercarriage rot/rust (usually under front seats/foot room), check frame carefully ( the rear end on mine was rusted as hell, i had to weld, also check front and right in the middle where transmission skid plate attached), check transmission - it should shift all 5 gears + reverse smoothly, listen to the engine - it should not squeak nor whisle just solid engine sound without sudden drops in rpm, finally take it for a ride (shift through all 5 gears) when you stop check for any leaks under the jeep, while riding feel the clutch (the disc could be bad and shops charge good money to repalce it). prety much that is it, from what i found engine, transmission, clutch and frame are the most expensive to fix so they need to be moderately good condition. Well if you don't know how to weld the welding jobs can also hit the the pocket heavily so check for rotten places well.

That's true of YJs but I don't think I'd want a 2k TJ

Also, was I the only one who read the OP's first post as:

"my grandma just took a crap on me"

**EDIT**

Just some common issues that are YJ specific are excessive corrosion in the battery cables, 4x4 actuator not working (make sure you test the 4x4 functionality), random upgrades installed poorly, rust, etc. Does it have previous damage? Why is the owner selling it?

You can expect to pay about 4k give or take a thousand in either direction for a decent YJ depending on condition and where you are located at. You said you wanted no issues, I would try to pick up a stock 4.0L Jeep if at all possible.

That looks like a lot of Jeep for the money. I would definitely go look at that one.

You know what they say bout 'He who hesitates.........'. Decision time friend. From the pics alone that beauty wouldn't last a day in Florida. It's rare but sometimes you can stumble on to a great deal and you have to be ready to move. Good luck

Few things: most YJ's didn't come with AC.. not sure if that is important to you or not.. 2nd the 4cly is okay with the 5spd, but most most 4cly 5spd close to those miles 140k, start to have 5th gear going out or it will go out.. make sure the trans shifts great. Check for frame rot at the area the area'a above the mounts for the leaf springs.. the back ones are usually the worst.

Not sure what your budget is.. but if this was on going to be my only transportation I would hold out for a 6cly and one with AC if i could find it..
