North Carolina HELP!!!

I'm trying to track down my first car/jeep. It is a 1991 Islander. Based on the Carfax report (I have the VIN) the jeep is in Concord, N. Carolina. It shows that it was last issued or renewed registration on 12/1/10. From what I can tell it looks like the same person may have owned it since '06.

Here are some facts about the Jeep:
Yellow 91 Islander
Inline 6 cylinder. 4.0
Automatic Transmission
A/C
At the time I sold it there was a 3" body lift installed, dual exhaust, American Racing rims, and a Warn steering stabilizer.

I would love the opportunity to purchase back this Jeep! I've kind of run into a brick wall in my search and don't know what the next step is that I should take. If anyone has any suggestions or knows of anyone in the Charlotte/Concord area who owns an Islander please message me. I've thought about buying another Wrangler over the years but I know I wouldn't be happy with a different one. Pic available in my profile. If anyone thinks posting the VIN here would help I will do so, just didn't know if I should post that info right away???
Thanks for any help-LEE

rule # 1 never sell your jeep cuz u always want it back! sure u know that already. i also found out the hard way. i let everyone talk me into getting rid of it and nobody telling me to keep it. i got lucky after five years i found one in better shape and lower miles everything stock and untouched. so call it luck or a blessing. how ever u wont find one on craigs junk so look at auto trader in ur area. u may have to pay a little more than what you sold it for . usually better jeeps on auto trader.

I do like the idea of running an ad. I think I'll let this post sit for a week or two and see if it can do any work for me and then pursue the ad. If anyone knows of any other N. Caroliana Off-Road forums or Jeep forums that might help get the word out please let me know. I'm sure there can't be too many 91 Yellow automatic Islanders in the Concord area. If someone can successfully get me in contact with the owner of this jeep I'll shoot you $100 through Paypal. When I say successfully I mean I'll have to match the VIN with the current owner.

let me see what i can do for an NC cop. got alot of family up there. but yes check the local nc page.

if you dont mind my asking, how did you track it. i've got the original paperwork for my jeep and know who the previous 2 owners are, but know nothing btwn those 2 guys and the original owner. it was apparently purchased by someone in the military and delivered to him brand new over seas. i'd like to know my jeeps story!

That would be great!
I tracked it by Carfax using the VIN. It lists the different car auctions that it went through, when I was registered as a dealer vehicle, and it shows each year that the owner renews the license. Unfortunately for me it gives zero personal information to track though. I can see why it doesn't, but I'm surprised with all the information on the web this kind of stuff is actually hard to come by. Either that or I'm just not good enough with a computer...
I'll post something up on the NC forum tomorrow.

According to the N.C. DMV, they are not allowed to give out any personal information including Names, addresses, phone numbers. I think these laws vary from state to state but that is what I've been told when I called and also based off of what I could find on their website.

That's a true statement. I am work with DCI and run plates and vins all the time. If someone does that for personal reason they risk A LOT of trouble with the SBI...

Hallelujah!!! I've found my old Jeep. Trying to negotiate a price to buy it back. I ended up getting a private investigator in Charlotte to locate the owner for me. He had access to the personal information based off of the VIN so he delivered a letter to the guy for me. I got a call from the owner that afternoon.
This is all pretty exciting to me!!! Assuming the deal goes through, can anyone recommend any good shipping companies for transport? I've read some reviews on Magic Carpet Auto Transport. Anyone had experience? Looking like around 750-$1,000 to ship.

I used Lightning Auto Transport to get my jeep shipped from VA to AL......i can't say enough good things about the service, communication, and the actual delivery driver....they were excellent, and i hauled cars for about 15 years so i know good service when i see it....they're out of Boca Raton, FL and ask to talk to Brendan.....very nice guy
And congratulations on finding your Baby!!!......

Here are two of em. The paint is completely hammered. The body has quite a few bumps an bruises. The interior looks like somebody drove it through a dust storm with the top off. Again, just gives me a little more work to do. On a side note the motor an tranny seem solid. The seller had them both rebuilt a few years back. That will save me some serious cash.

"off the road"

Does that allude to it retiring from the labors of mundane life and is free to play in the trees.

Or has it "passed-on" to Jeep heaven...full of mud ruts, a rock-garden of eden, and the pearly gates of mod-shops.

After all....Jeeps are too honery the "die" peacefully.

It's actually looking better already. The seats under the covers looked better than the covers did. The console's gotta go. I'm hoping to find an OEM console in pretty good shape. I tore out the indoor/outdoor carpet that was in the back. She just needs some TLC. Ordered new seat belts today. I think I'm gonna knock out the interior first as well as have all the fluids changed and standard tune up done. I'm grinnin ear to ear even if she is rough.
