Now the Fun Begins

Well, I got the 2.5 inch rough country kit and the rampage steps now. I will get them installed Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. If I can get it all done, I will be posting pics soon.

Is there any way that you might be able to measure the exact height the RC kit gives you? I'm going back an forth between the 2.5 and the 4"". Thanks
Shaun

60MG, I don't know what you mean by reference number, I bought the kit off of RoughCountry.com. Shaun, I already planned to measure the height because I had a hard time making the decision myself. I am expecting 3 inches plus because my springs now are almost completely flat. I will post pics and measurements as soon as I get through.

Talking

OregonTJ, we are talking about YJ lifts, the one you are talking about will not work.

Took about 2.5 hours, but I am completely through with the front end of my jeep. I will post pics tommorow when I get through, the pre lift height to the bottom of the body was 18.5 inches. I have not been able to hook the track bar up on the front end yet, it is about 3/4 of the hole off, will this line up better when I get the back done?

Thanks Gafarmer. That front end is looking better already . Are those 33" tires that you have on there now?

I am through with the install, just have to finish tightning everything up. When I was through, I measured 22.5 inches at the bottom of the body, that is a 4 inch gain from a 2.5 inch kit. I am sure the springs will settle some, but I am impressed so far. I wound up having to remove both track bars as they would not hook up after the lift. This was not that bad of a job, and I did it mostly myself, although I will admit, that having a helper would have definatly sped things up. Shaun, those are 30x9.50's on the jeep now, I will be getting 31's and new wheels soon. I will post some pics later tonight,

Before and after pics, currently 30x9.50's, planning for 31x10.50's still have to put the step bars on. It is just like I want it now, except for tires, wheels, off rd. lights, bumpers, well you know what I mean.

So, other than what was in the kit (springs, u-bolts, and shocks) you didn't mount anything else like extended brake lines, etc?

The kit comes with springs, u-bolts, and shocks. I ordered from the rough country website and added new spring eye bolts, shock boots, and a steering stabilizer. If you change the steering stabilizer, a small pully puller will make life a lot easier. I did not have to relocate or extend the brake lines. All and all a very simple, straightforward kit.

Is the wheel alignment necessary also?

So with the 2.5" kit you did not have to change brake or fuel lines? Just switched the springs and shocks?

That is all I did, I removed the track bars while I was there, but I have not messed with the brake lines or fuel lines. I have not driven on the road yet, still have to tighten up some stuff, may be weekend after next before I am through due to work schedule and meeting all this weekend and next week.

You removed track bars but sway bar is still there, isn't it? Does it make sense to replace them with adjustable track bars?

Sway bar is still there, I have not driven it yet to see if I want to get new track bars or not.

Can you post how to images (step-by-step)? I'm on same boat where I do want to get it done but I'm ok to spend all day and night to work on it myself.

Now the fun begins, update

Well, I now have new 15x10 dick cepek DC-2 wheels, new cooper stt 32x11.50 tires, and the beginings of a new front bumper. I am really impressed with the change in looks just from the tires and wheels. I am posting a before and after pic, along with a pic of working on the bumper.

Wow!! What a difference a 2.5" lift made. I would have never thought it would have brought it up that high. My springs are flat as a pancake too. so I guess I would get similar results. Thanks for posting up the pictures. Great looking jeep.

It was well above my expectations too Shaun, I measured last night, and I have gained between 4 and 4.5 inches over stock. I was expecting 3 tops, but I guess that just shows how much 16 year old leaf springs can sag. I hope to finish the bumper this week, and possibly make some rocker guards. The main reason for the rockers is a dent just below the drivers door that was there when I got it.
