Oil Type and weight??

Just bought an '87 YJ. Need to change the oil soon. Does anyone know what type of oil and weight I should use??? Synthetic or Not??? It has 171K miles and it is used for around town as well as highway miles. Thanks.

I know that it is the original Inline L-6 engine. I believe it is a 4.2 Liter. I am not sure if synthetic oil or regular was used. Will it hurt the engine if I decide to go synthetic??? Not sure the type of oil the previous owner put in. I do not want to hurt the engine by going back to regular if he used synthetic. Thanks.

Your Jeep was made to use
reg oil not synthetic
You have high miles as do I
I use a oil for high mileage
I like valvoline
for high mile engine
10-30 is a good alround weight

good ole 10w30. don't worry about synthetic, even if it was in there, its a myth that its bad to go back.

i also use valvoline max life, you could also go w/ 10w40 without a problem also.
