Ok...Im an idiot..lol can anyone help?

OK..so since i bought my 88 wrangler 4 months ago, it has ran relatively rough..(i thought it was because it is an 88, and it has 213,xxx unrebuilt miles on it)...*2.5l* anyhow..i finally got free time to go through the motor and such looking for messes i could clear up, when i started thinking.."maybe its NOT just a weak ass P.O.S. , maybe its missing?" so i started it up, and pulled the wires off the distributor one at a time, and noticed that one #3 there was no change.....then there was very little change on #4..( the cap was sparking to the wires when id put them back on)...... so i changed the plugs on those two and still the same result..i tried a different plug wire from one of my parts cars just to see if #3 would at least change a little..no go....the tips of 3 and 4s plugs were white.... i dont readily have a compression guage....any idea what i should try next to avoid high cost at the moment? ..i am just starting to learn little by little mechanicing aspects of things, but obviously have a long way to go...any help would be much appreciated,,..thank you for taking the time to read.

ALSO..i removed a broken aftermarket cruise control unit that the previous owner had on, yet no longer worked, and it had a vaccuum line spliced into the vac line on the brake booster....yet when i plug that new extra line, it runs like hell....but when its not plugged it make a loud sucking sound......

this sucks..lol

Sounds tired. If the plugs were white then that means you are running lean or the plugs are too hot for your application. Did you get the stock plugs? Or did you take them off you parts car?
