OK... lets talk lift kits?

Just got my 89 YJ and it has brand new 31" tires on it. It is stock and it
is gunna rub so I am looking into a lift to alleviate the problem. Looked
at the lift review thread and found some opinions.....

But the guys in town I talked to recommended BDS lifts highly. I am
going to use it as a DD and use it as my hunting/offroad rig. I am looking
at the 2" BDS kit to make the 31"s not rub and look right.

I know its more money than say the RC kit, but it does include a T Case drop
kit too. I really do not think that I will run 33's w/ stock gears and a 4.2 I6.

Any opinions?

BDS makes a great lift as does Old Man Emu and Rubion Express. They are the premier lifts for premier off road use. If your Jeep is to be used as a daily driver and not see a ton of off road, then the basic lifts are acceptable. Also, a lot of the ride you get from a suspension lift is more in the shocks rather than the springs. So, if you wanted to, you could get a budget lift and primo shocks and be golden. Ask other shops what they recommend. Likely, they will differ in opinion by what brand they carry.

TH,

Hey thanks man. Those are the three names I was looking at. I just
want to do it right the first time. The local BDS guys say they can do
the 2" kit for $850 installed. The BDS website showed the kit at like $779
Same for RE and OME. So it seemed like an ok deal installed. Just did not
see much mentioned about BDS here. Thanks

I think your local BDS guy is blowing sunshine with that pricing.
It's not extremely difficult to install but it is a lot of work.
You will also need new frame to shackle bushings and spring eye bolts.
They're options on the kit. You may want shock boots as well.
With that pricing I can't see him making any money.

I would drive your jeep for awhile
to get a feel for it before lifting.
Maybe not because of the 31s

Ya lifting a 89 with any rust will cost more than that in labor

Well thats what I thought on the price too? I just thought that they get a dealer discount well below wholesale. Plus times are hard now and
maybe they wanted the business.... flip side is they did not include any "options" in that price and will try to get me for it when I get there.....

Thanks for the advise....

I would love to just drive it now, but the 31's he put on it
work on the street, though have rubbed somewhere, I could never take it offroad and I am dying to do it. I see it rubbing on the right flare. Gotta do something and the tires are brand new

It has no rust, just a little on the leaf
packs and u bolts where they meet around axle in front.... they are 21 years old though.

I really just need the 31's not the rub.

Is the quality of the better name kits in the springs? Are they more
expensive because they flex better? Or is it in the shocks?
