Okay Stupid Question dont make fun of me

Okay the guy I baught my YJ from said he replaced the plugs and wires and after it sitting on stands for a while its starting to miss hardcore after sitting all night like its running on 2 cylinders for about 10 minutes. I was thinking of replaceing plugs and wires and Dist. cap. and also I was wondering how big of a pain in the ass it is to replace a full distributor and all.

no need to replce the distributor yet. since you never know what other people do to jeeps, i'd say do a full ignition tune up, replace spark plugs, cap, rotor, and wires. get a manual and make sure you gap the plugs right and get the firing order right.

good luck

Yep jeepdoc's probably right on the money with the firing order, all you have to do is misplace a couple of wires and the thing will barely run

^ahh, well thats different. usually people buy a yj and have no clue what the previous owner was thinking. at least you know how the work was done then. i've seen people do weird things to jeeps, so at least you don't have to worry about that. those carbs are a big pain on the 4.2, i'd look into that also.

You could do a weber carb conversion if you wanted to as those carbs are a real pos. I am glad you know who the jeep came from so that helps, maybe try spraying some carb cleaner down it while you have it runningm it may have just gummed up a bit those carbs are known for it.
