Paint over rust - Experiences

My frame has some surface rust and the drivers and passenger side panels where the JEEP logo is at is rusting.

I don't want to put a lot of money into it, but I would like something to put over the rust without taking the frame off.

So far, I have found a few products. What are your experiences with them?

POR-15
Eastwood Rust Encapsulator and Rust Converter
Magnet Paint Co. Chassis Saver
Krylon Rust Converter <- Cheapest and Aerosol - If this works, why not?

I've used a product called rust mort, worked great. If I needed to repair body work, I used a product called all metal. Its a bondo type product but metal. I don't know about on the frame

As soon as the weather breaks (been raining all week), I am doing my entire frame in POR 15. Everyone I have asked swears by it. Bought 2 gallons for about $250 shipped. Going to wire wheel the entire frame, degrease it, then paint it. I'll post when done and let you know how it goes.

I bought a quart of POR-15 for may wrangler. It covers and seals well, but keep in mind if the sun gets to it. It will fade, You need to top coat it. But one quart did the underside and wheel wells of my jeep. Just don't get it on you, it doesn't come off.

jslayton - 2 gals would do my house.

I use 3M Mar-Hyde one step rust converter it works very similar to Por-15. I've used both products and I like the Mar-Hyde it's water based so it cleans up easily. But when it dries it's very strong and doesn't need to be topcoated but it is recommended. It's also about 2/3 the price of Por-15. You can buy it at NAPA and other autoparts stores.

For the top coat por-15 makes a spray on "underbody black" paint you do over the por-15 when your done. Maybe that will help the fading.

Jslayton - you wanna do mine next? I'm sure you will have plenty left over haha!
