Paint Question

i have a 90 yj. overall it's in good shape, no real rust issues, no wrecks, original paint etc. it is faded being so old, but not so faded that the red is gone and prime is showing through. i guess you could say it's more dull than faded. i have no plans of doing a full repaint... it's a jeep and i know if i repainted it i'd mess it up within a week. what i want to do is fully clean and/or polish it, then i guess spray a coat of clear on it. is that the right thing to do to get the results i want? i want to protect it as it is. if there's other options let me know. thanks

Check out the post "Operation YJ Resurrection". He has a red YJ that was badly faded.
Now it looks like a million bucks.

In order to spray a coat of clear, the entire surface of the panel you are spraying has to be sanded and a base coat applied. Clearcoat is a paint product and probably not what you want to do.

The simplest thing you can do is buy an inexpensive buffer and a bottle of mild polishing compound. With a buffer it takes about a good days work to polish a Jeep sized vehicle.
Do your buffing in the shade and when you are done, wash the Jeep before the polishing compound can dry. Don't let the compound dry or it will be extremely difficult to remove.

Once you have cleaned all the oxidized paint off, and given the Jeep a good scrubbing, then give the jeep a coat of wax.

Good Luck, L.M.
