Quadratec LED Tail Lights and Guards

Installed Quadratec's LED tail lights yesterday. Super easy install, and they work perfectly. Blinkers blink, backups backup, and stop lights stop.

One little problem:

I can't seem to get my light guards on. The lens of the tail light does not come off all the way, and I can't figure out how to screw the light to the guard. Anyone ever messed with this? Or should I just craigslist the light guards?

I actually just installed those same lights on my '95 last weekend. Really nice lights. It seems like the only way to get access to the bolts would be to disconnect all the wires which would probably be a major pain to get back on afterwards.. But if you don't mind doing a little modifying to light you might could extend all of the wires so that you could pull everything out of the top and bottom of the housing and get the bolts back in then stuff all the wires all back in.

That's kind of what I was thinking, but I'm really not sure it's worth the effort. I've got a craigslist buddy that wants them, so I'll just take the money and move on to the next project I guess.

Do the taillight guards actually provide any protection and protect against what?

Just curious, L.M.

Not from a rear ending or anything catastrophic, but they'd stop a medium sized branch from getting through. Honestly though, I'm just used to having them there and I'm unsure if I want to make it work or not. Haha.

Guards are illegal in va. They consider it an obstruction. So you have to take them off every year for inspection. Since I'm in a millatary town, and we have a billion jeeps from all over the country, they all gotta go. Seems like every yj, and tj had them on em. You can't give them away around here.

Well, I made back what I paid for them because they were an Amazon Warehouse deal last year. haha. It's a small thing, but they act as a tire stop if you don't have a regular one. My buddy cracked his passenger tail light housing because he didn't have a tire stop, but the extra thickness of the guards stops the tire from hitting the light now.
