Question about 3" body lift/trans. case shifter

Hey Everyone: Hoping to find a little info. from you experts that have put a body lift on their YJ.
Just bought my 2nd Jeep YJ, a 93, 4 cyl. 5 spd. with a trashed AX-5 (nothing new there...). Anyway, this Jeep only has 64,xxx miles, but the previous owner purchased from brother in law that put a 3" body lift on it. He told me he lot 1-2-3rd gear at a stop light, and drove it home in 4th.
The Jeep has 31x10.50x15 tires (reason for the lift). When I picked it up, I was able to fiddle with the trans. case shifter a little, and drove it on the trailer in 1st gear, but it felt like most of the teeth were gone in tranny.
My question is: When you put a body lift on, do they make a longer shifter lever for the trans. case? I honestly think the previous owner (not mechanically inclined) was driving this thing around without the case being in 2H completely. It felt like the shifter was hitting the front opening for the shifter, not completely in gear on the case. I'm hoping the case isn't trashed. While I'm asking, can you buy a re-build kit for the trans. case? I've installed the kits in the AX-5 before, but haven't taken a NP-231 transfer case apart before. I have noticed the chain for the case is available. I haven't had any luck finding a longer throw shifter yet.
Any help will be appreciated.

IMO Remove the 3in kit drop back to 1in with a 2.5/3in susp lift. A 3in body lift looks funky and on a 93 the stock springs are most likely shot.

Thanks for the replies so far...I agree, the 3" body lift is not the best way to go....but this thing has brand new tires, and I was wanting to use them if possible. If I take the lift off of it, then I have to go with smaller tires. This would be the best move. But I know that this is not the only body lifted vehicle out there, and I'm sure other people have run into the transfer case shifter hitting the hole in the body after the lift. I'm just looking for solutions to my problem at the moment. I'm not going to rebuild the tranny, and possibly the transfer case, and run into the same problem that trashed it to begin with.
