I'm getting ready to paint my jeep and have heard of people spraying them with Krylon. My jeep is a beater and I don't want to spend big money painting it. So post your pics of your rattle can paint job...so I can get some idea's. Thanks guys!!
I wouldn't rattle can the whole thing, you should be thinking more like using a bed liner type material, check out Durabak. It isn't super cheap, but so far it wears pretty well, I used it on a utility trailer and I have a gallon to be used to do my tub floors soon!
Do yourself a favor though...get one of those trigger type things that attaches to the top of the cans. It will keep your hand from cramping and give you more control.
Thanks...I'm finally finishing it up after about year. The weather is changing and my doors were still red and I don't want to go through another winter with mis-matched doors again.
is that 2nd paint job rattle canned too? what kind of prep work did you do? i have a small paint sprayer and want to do mine, but am not looking forward to hours of pre-sanding
Any paint job, rattle can or not, is all about the prep work. I probably have 30 hours into sanding and repairing into the second paint job. Of course that includes the flat fender conversion too. And yes it is 100% Krylon spray paint. I used a palm sander for most of the heavy sanding and hand sanded a few times between primer coats to smooth everything out. It's about as good of a job as you can get with all the wrong tools.
wow, havent been on here in a while (got back to school and been busy busy busy), but daddyjeep, that is a SUPERB ratttle can job. and i have to agree with the prep comment. whats the saying, measure times but only cut once. not the same thing, but kinda has the same gist... haha
It doesnt matter what you use to paint, rattle can or spray gun, like daddy said, ITS ALL ABOUT PREPWORK (read: SANDING and more SANDING) Then let her cure for a few weeks and buff her to a shimmer. Oh and wet the floor b4 u steart to paint to keep the dust down.
i vote use rust oleum. you have to roll on like 20 coats and wet sand it but after that and buffing it looks just like a real paint job and lasts. search on it on google and youll see what can be done.
I think it contrasts well with the green. Plus it's the same color as the factory soft top and my interior. I've wanted a green jeep with a tan top since I was 7 years old, now that I finally have one, I see no need to change it. :flipoff:
