I just bought a '95 YJ and the factory soft top is trashed. I want to purchase a replacement top complete with all the windows and the front half door skins.
I am on a budget but willing to spend more if the quality is considerably better. I have seen replacement tops on ebay for around $229. The Best Tops seem to be around $500.
Does anyone have any oppinions or suggestions on any of these tops. I have searched the forums but havent really found a good comparason.
I'm probably going to make this one my next top this spring, not sure if they have a YJ version. They just started mass producing these so I am waiting a few months, but they look awesome. Good premise.
Best top is good way to go. You do get what you pay for. My parents bought a cheap replacement top. It was nice for about 2 years and then was very difficult to put up and down because it shrank up so much. Pay now or Pay twice!!!
Not to hijack your thread, but I just picked up an '89 with a soft top. The jeepp was put on its side with the top on and some of the frame bars are bent. There are also a couple tears on the top itself. I dont know if its factory or aftermarket for either and I looked all around the top.
How can I tell which it is?
Am I able to buy the bars I need from somewhere?
Is it worth having the top patched and sewed or getting a new one?
Can I buy a top without windows?
The windows are dark tinted and in great shape so I would like to keep those if I can.
I have a Best Top replacement top and love it. I had a Best Top Bikini Top for the YJ also, and it ripped. I sent them the tag and they replaced the bikini top for free. That's good customer service if you ask me!
So I just finished installing my new Best Top Replace A Top and everything is great. The top is excelent quality and my YJ looks 100 times better now.
The only thing is where the back window and the tailgate come together... Or don't come together. I guess the top is designed to allow the tailgate to open with the rear window closed. There is about a 1" gap between the bottom of the window and the tailgate.
Anyone else notice this? If you have the same Best Top and the gap, does it let a ton of water in when it rains? Looks like it would really leak a lot.
I dont know about the yj's but on the tj's there is a metal bar that slides onto the bottom of the back window that attaches to the top of the tub to seal it off.
