Replacement soft top snaps

So my brothers factory soft top finally kicked the bucket and ripped after 14 years of wear and tear. We bought a Bestop Replace a top and ordered new Rugged Ridge replacement side rail snaps. I got the top installed fine but the new snaps will not stay on the side rail(or whatever the bar is that connects from the middle bow to the windshield). The snaps pull right off the rail with a little amount of pressure. I tried to squeeze the top and bottom together with pliars so they would stay on but it didn't help any. Anybody have any suggestions?

Congratulations on getting 14 years out of the top. But I'm thinking of that gum commercial where they take your old piece away so you buy something new. Maybe we should go around taking soft tops?

NavyChief is exactly right. Snaps are not built to an exact standard, so you may just have a size issue. The repair kit has the snaps and the "bolts," so should get you going.

You may also want to call our customer service people - 800-845-3567, or csbestop@bestop.com. I'm not positive why you have a side rail - wouldn't the snaps just go right on the body?

I sent that reply to our customer service manager, Lee Anne, who has worked here for 25 years. She has a slightly better understanding of this stuff than I do.

So please call or email customer service, because I'll just screw this up more. But she thinks you're talking about the snap rail that goes from the middle bar to the windshield, not the snaps in the back. And if that's what you're talking about, then the snap repair kit will not work.

I'm tempted to now pretend I never saw this thread in the first place, and just delete everything, and go play solitaire for a bit.
