Have to repower my 94 2.5L. I'm running 33's with a 2.5" lift and would like some more power without decreasing my fuel mileage greatly. Currently I'm getting 13mpg and am wondering if a rebuilt 4.0L would get about the same. Also want to know what I would have to purchase to do the swap from the 2.5L and where to get the best price for a rebuilt block. Any suggestions and opinions would be greatly appreciated

Yeah that will be tough.

The swap will require setting new motor mounts for the engine.

You will need an AX-15 trans

A 23 spline Transfer case or the main shaft.

Length might be different another driveshaft

Then shop labor $80-100/ hour

Not a budget friendly swap even when you do it yourself.

Last check I did for MPG on mine was about 12.5mpg with 4.5" lift, 33x12.5's, and 4.0L with 5-speed.

There's not much that you can do for adding MPG's in these. The aerodynamics are on par with a bus. You can try reducing parasitic losses like a better flowing exhaust. You can add a cold air intake, that might add a tenth of a mile per gallon. Removing the mechanical fan and replacing it with an electric fan on a controller relay would add maybe half a mile per gallon. I did that on a 2.3L Ranger that I had and saw a slight increase in mpg.
