Revolver Shackles

I just recently sold my TJ. However, I am in the process of planning my next buildup. I want to do a YJ, and run 40s. I know the amount of lift i need, I just had a question about shackles. I was looking at those revolver shackles and had some questions about them. Do you lose any height because of them, and do they really work as good as they are made out to be? Any other problems or things that are good about them?

Awesome, looks like that jeep, even though on leaf springs, has some flex to it. Just wondering though if it alters the height at all. I was planning on a spring over and 6 inch springs, and a 3 inch body lift. I want to make sure I will have enough clearance for 40s.

what are you planning to do with it? with that much lift i cant imagine you'd really be in a situation to need much flex?

With that much lift your looking at a 15in lift, and with tires your at about 20 1/2 inches taller than stock. You sure you want to go that high? I would rather do like 2 or 3 in lift with a spring over and do fender trimming and extend the wheel base. With no body lift.

I am pretty sure that the revolvers are quite close to the stock shackle length when closed. If anything they would be longer instead of shorter.

I always get the same responses from you rock crawlers, too much lift. I live in Florida, the only riding I do is in swamps, I need as much height as possible. Thanks daddyjeep, thats what I wanted to know. I figured they would be around stock, or maybe even lose an inch or two from them, I just want to make sure I have the height I will need to run 40s with no rubbing. Thanks.

im not saying its too much lift....i just dont see what you need all that flex for if you're mud running.

No, they obviously dont. Seems this site is mainly flooded with rock crawlers. Nothing against rock crawling, but in case you haven't been to Florida, its pretty hard to find a trail like the ones you got out west, or up north. So I play in what i got, and thats mud, and down here in southwest florida, we have plenty of it.

Ha, we had mud here in AZ once, but it dried up within an hour.

I get what you are doing Hawg, That is going to be one stiff pig with those leafs in there. What axles are you planning on running with it?

I was thinking 8.8 in the rear, and a 44 in the front, locked front and rear and 5.13s. With a 4.0 in it, it will stay light, its going to be an awesome setup, with 40inch tsl's on 14 wides, it will go anywhere.

So do you already have the 8.8? I'm just thinking that with that much weight on the tubes going spring over it might be worth you just popping in some full width 60's in there to take advantage of the 3 1/2" tubes.

No, I dont have a rear end yet. I was trying to keep this as a total budget deal. I have an 8.8 lined up for 500 bucks, and a 44 front for 500 bucks. Where I would be spending over 1500 for the 60s. Dont get me wrong, I would LOVE to run 1 ton under the jeep, but for what i am going to use it for, i dont think I will need it. A friend of mine has the same setup, with stock axles, and he has never once had a problem, and I have seen him hit on it pretty hard. So I think upgrading to the 8.8 and 44 would probably suit me fine.

Rock on then bro. I completely hear you on the budge. The 8.8 has way thicker tubes than the stock TJ axles and the 44 you are putting in should cause you no problems in the strength dept. Look forward to seeing your build.

Yeah. Sucks working on a budget, i wish i had 20 g's i could drop into it. I'm basically building a family outing vehicle, and I want to spend at the most 7500 bucks, so with this approach, I should be right on.

I just have trouble believing that they dont bind in any way. Funny, even though this is the only bad thing I have heard so far, I'm leaning towards not getting them. But thanks for the heads up.
