I purchased a Rugged Ridge over hoop to add to the front of the jeep, knowing I would have to modify it. Well I started fitting it and had to cut into the tube itself, after making the cut flaky rust came pouring out, this is a brand new hoop made out of tubing, it was just delivered 3 days ago. I am not speaking of surface rust it was flakes. So I called Extreme Terrain where I purchased it from and the said they can not do anything because I had modified it. Well that is why you buy a Jeep, so you can modify it, hell the whole damn thing is modified. And the rust did not get there because I modified it, it was already there. Do not like that kind of service, or lack of service from Extreme. They referred me to Rugged Ridge. I have sent them an email since you can not find a phone number for them. I will see how they respond to this. Kind of pissed because you buy a new item you do not expect that kind of junk. My old tube bumper is 20 years old and does not have that kind of rust.
"Thank you for the information. I have passed your ticket over to our QC department.
If you have any further questions or concerns please contact us.
Regards,"
How should I respond to that? They obviously do not care... I know I will never buy another Rugged Ridge product. For some reason I believe there are old fashioned companies out there that care about their product and customers....

Well I decided to reply with a quick note that said "In other words you mean Sorry Charlie..."
Their response is
" Our warranty is void when one of our parts is modified from its intended use. It appeared in your description you modified the tube to fit your needs by cutting on it. 'I was able to adapt it to my needs'.
I will discuss with my manager.
Regards,
Well from that I figure since I cut into it and I caused instant rust it is my fault!!!!!!
Warning sticker should read: DO NOT CUT IT CAUSES INSTANT RUST
Thank You for the phone number, the email response I got is from Omix-Ada. I will try to call them later today. But from what I gather they just do not care. I feel the believe in the old 4 F policy... FINDEM FEEDEM FORGETEM
That also applies to Extreme Terrain, they did not want to help either. Plus when I placed the order, by email 2 days later they simply cancelled the order because I had my po box as well as my street address on the order, said they could not deliver to po box. Same way I have been using it for years.
Figure that hoop was made with cheap metal in China, put on a boat and crossed the ocean with all that salty air doing what it does best. By the time it gets to you, yes, it's a rust bucket. That's why I look for a local fabricator. My bumper was made about 70 miles from my house and is more solid than any Chinese crap, my rock sliders were custom made 20 miles from here, again much better than any bolt on for $200.
I have not done much with Extreme Terrain, but they have a go to guy on the forum. Look him up and contact him.
The shackles I bought from them were crap. The bolts they provided were Chinese and the nuts didn't want to thread about half way through the bolt. Some of them sheared in half while trying to torque them down and was not cross threaded. My jeep has half factory bolts and half rugged ridge crap. "The ones that actually threaded on"
Never really trusted Rugged Ridge products once I noticed they were in my local O'Reilly. I did buy their side mirrors just due to lack of options at the time.. They work pretty well and honestly surprised how well they have held up so far.
Just cheap enough to not have broken... Yet
Would I buy them again? Nope.. I plan on keeping my Jeep and cheap Chinese products have no place on my vehicle.
Well I ended up pouring phosphoric acid in them to kill the rust, usually works. poured a bunch in and sealed off the ends so I could shake it around and cover the entire inside then drained the excess. I already have the money and labor to modify them and did not want to just throw them in the dumpster. Got it mounted this morning, it looks good from the outside, figure it will last a little while before rusting through,
I'm really sorry about the rusty bumper and the service you got! Our Jeep experts on the phones have protocol to follow which unfortunately ended in you having a poor experience.
I'd like to refund you the full cost of that bumper and send you a new one if you'd like. I know you already modified the one you have to work and I'm not sure you want to spend the time modding another one, but if you would I'd be happy to send you out a new one. Just shoot me a PM with your order number and I'll have it taken care of.
Again, I apologize for the inconvenience and the rusty bumper!
Yeah I bought a front bumper from them about 5 months ago. I noticed about 2 months in the paint on it started chipping off and it was rusting. I didn't do any mods to it and I never took it off road. I was pretty disappointed. Had I know the quality of the liner on it I would have spent a little more money on a better product.
good to see it worked out for ya. can't say much for rugged ridge but Ryan and Extreme Terrain are top notch.
