I found a Jeep Wrangler YJ 1990 for sale for $3000 on craigslist. The person selling told me that it had a salvage title due to theft. I didn't think much of it so I went to take a look at the vehicle myself. I noticed that the jeep looked really clean and had no major or minor damage at all. The seats were nice and reupholstered. He had the engine rebuilt for no other reason than peace of mind, since the car was a gift for his younger sister. There were thin half doors and a bikini top on the jeep. He gave me the details on the salvage title in person and said that it was deemed as such due to theft of the doors and the hard top. I thought that wouldn't be a big deal and I knew that people would be all over this Jeep in no time. So I decided I would buy it. I gave him 2600 up front and he gave me the keys to the jeep and a contract saying that I would pay him the 400. He held onto the jeep and the pink slip. I talked to my mom to help out with the rest of the money. She asked about the vehicle and gave her the details. She was telling me not to go through with the transaction because of the salvage title. She said that salvage titles cannot be insured. She thought that I was going to be ripped off because of the presence of the salvage title, no full covering top, no locking doors and late registration. I still really want to get this jeep, but I'm not sure if it's actually worth it.
