small snorkel?

Hey everyone, I was thinking about putting just a small snorkel off the air box but keeping it under the hood. Has anyone ever done this? How did you do it? Any ideas of how to do it? Thanks!

Hmmm

I'm currently considering the snorkel set up on my too, the conundrum is wether to have it look and perform like the traditional snorkel we all think of, or having an under the hood one.

IMO, I think an ARB Safari type snorkel is pointless UNLESS you seel the motor and components from water too (similar set up to the mud racers, weldin an aluminum box on on the under and sides of the motor/components so water can't get in). Whats the point of having a snorkel if once your distributor gets wet or any other exposed items, you're hosed.

I am looking at relocating the filter under the hood mainly for cool air purposes. I am running a Zennith carb and am trying to figure out where to have the plumbing run to for filter placement. The only area currently that I am looking at is where the stock jack location is (fab up a splatter sheild to block any mud, particles, etc from clogging the filter too fast). If I go this route I wil post some pics for you.

i was thinking about this today and if you chop off the plastic tube after it comes out of the filter box, you could probably cobble a tj air intake horn thing onto it to raise your intake about 4 or 5 inches.

I fly R/C aircraft And have been thinking of useing a Elec. ducted fan assembly for this on a micro switch .some of my current edfs put out 4 to 5lbs of thrust.
the only reason I havent is I cant seem to hide one of these in my jeeps airbox There more fun going 100mph

i have it my renegade. not sure what the output is but i can feel the difference. i took 12vdc from the cig lighter terminal. when i turn on the ignition the fan turns on and walla, home grown turbo. kits for yjs are $300.00+. mine was free. remove the intake horn from the box. it will come out in one piece. insert the fan and seal with rtv. reinstall the horn and seal with rtv. run the fan wires out the front of the horn. run the power lead to the power and ground the other.

I used to be into the RC hobbie as well.

But wouldn't a ducted fan get ruined by water and wouldn't it suck more water in? haha

Also, at higher RPMs, won't the motor need more air than what the ducted fan delivers? Or does it provide even more air than your engine would normally take in at higher RPMs?
