Post Sole-vac solenoid

Hey, does anyone know what the sole-vac solenoid on the original carter bbd carb does? Having a "flooding" problem and HAYNES manuel advises to disconnect it prior to setting idle speed . I "searched" the site and couldn't find any previous posts on this!

if your adjusting idle and it needs to be disconnected for base idle setting im thinking its your idle kicker for auto trans and ac equipped vehicles. am i right? auto trans and a/c? if not post a pic.

I have a 4.2, A/C, 5speed with an original carb. and it has a solenoid. I also had them on cars that had auto and no A/C. The old mechanics used to call it a "dash-pot". Basically, if you have A/C it kicks up the idle a bit when the A/C is turned on so your idle doesn't drop too quick and you stall. If no A/C, it will also bump up your idle a bit which helps when you come to a quick stop. Most of these on original carbs don't work. Mine still works and it's an easy adjustment. Disconnect and check whether there is play in it. When you reconnect you should be able to feel that it really doesn't move, or , you may see it move when you reconnect. If it doesn't do anything it probably doesn't work. If it doesn't, just bring up your idle a bit and you should be fine since you don't have A/C. When you make any carb. adjustments you should disconnect it.
